Sad, says Teresa after Hadi’s latest tirade against DAP

Seputeh MP describes the PAS president’s claim that DAP glorifies the Malayan Communist Party as 'racist and unfounded'.

DAP’s Seputeh MP Teresa Kok said she found it ‘a bit sad’ that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang continued to attack DAP.
KUALA LUMPUR:
DAP MP Teresa Kok today hit out at PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang over his recent claims that her party glorifies the Malayan Communist Party (MCP) and that the proposed Urban Renewal Act is a strategy to drive out poor Malays.

Hadi made the claims in a Facebook post this morning, accusing DAP of glorifying MCP’s struggle against the Japanese during World War II.

“The party was supported by the British in fighting the Japanese and was later banned for its own politics. It caused many Malay soldiers and police officers to lose their lives during the emergency period,” he said.

The Marang MP also claimed that the Urban Renewal Act was proposed by Nga Kor Ming’s housing and local government ministry to drive out poor Malays from urban areas under the guise of redevelopment.

Kok described Hadi’s remarks as discriminatory and said she found it “a bit sad” that he continued to attack DAP.

“I think, lately, he’s been making a lot of racist and unfounded statements, including that DAP glorifies MCP,” she told FMT after a flag handout initiative in Bukit Jalil.

“We’re the Democratic Action Party; why would we glorify a party that isn’t of assistance (to us) at all?

“I don’t know what his agenda is, or if these statements will help PAS get more votes in the coming GE, but such statements will only divide Malaysia further and will be met with more resistance.”

Kok, who had gathered with representatives of various residents’ groups to distribute Malaysian flags to shopkeepers and passers-by in the area, said most Malaysians were happy to receive and display the Jalur Gemilang.

She also urged government agencies, especially those close to the public, to have a stock of flags readily available for handouts to communities, saying flags might sometimes be hard to find in stores.
