Multiple people injured in shooting at Virginia State University

School said shooting involved ‘multiple suspects’ as campus was locked down and police responded to scene

Multiple people were injured in a shooting at Virginia State University, police said on Saturday morning, with several suspects still at large.

The campus, about 20 miles (32km) south of Richmond, was on lockdown when police released initial details about the shooting.

“A shooting occurred in the area of the Quad Annexes involving multiple victims, who were transported to area hospitals. Police are on scene and request that you avoid the area,” the VSU police department said in a statement.

VSU said the shooting involved “multiple suspects”. The university said none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.

Local news outlet WTVR reported that five people were injured, citing local authorities. Chesterfield police told WTVR that police were called to university dormitories at 1.30am.

As of Saturday morning, there had been nearly 300 mass shootings reported across the US so far for the year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.

The nonpartisan resources defines mass shootings as cases in which at least four victims are wounded or killed.

The US has perennially registered high numbers of mass shootings, with a considerable portion of those occurring at school and university campuses or activities. Those numbers have prompted calls for more substantial federal gun control, though Congress over the years has not implemented such restrictions.

  1. Hmmm...2 in the same day. Just after the major celestial events of 12 August, 6 planets alignment, solar eclipse, perseid shower, new moon and solar cme direct hit on earth...

Did not felt anything while on terra firma in Puchong.

    WOW! ๐Ÿ˜ณ⚠️

About 10 hours after Indonesia’s Mw 7.7 earthquake, another major earthquake struck approximately 2,800 km away!

    ๐Ÿ“ Near Pematangsiantar, North Sumatra
    ๐Ÿ’ฅ Mw 6.9
    ↕️ 183 km deep

    The time difference is striking:

    Mw 7.7 → 9 hours 57 minutes → Mw 6.9

And the fact that the Mw 6.9 earthquake occurred at a depth of 183 km makes this event even more interesting and complex.

    Here is the important part:

USGS research on dynamic triggering shows that seismic waves generated by large earthquakes can influence fault systems thousands of kilometers away, and some distant earthquakes can occur hours after the triggering event.

So a delay of around 10 hours is not physically impossible in the context of delayed dynamic triggering.

And 2,800 km is not necessarily too far for dynamic interactions involving seismic waves and transient stress changes. (USGS)

A possible mechanism could look like this:

Mw 7.7 → seismic waves → deep slab/fault system beneath Sumatra → transient stress changes → rupture in a fault already close to failure

⚠️ This does NOT mean that the Mw 7.7 definitely triggered the Mw 6.9.

To establish a connection, we need to examine the focal mechanisms, wave arrival directions, timing, and seismicity around both events.

But at this point, simply calling this “a coincidence” would be difficult to dismiss without further investigation.

    And now another questions emerges:

๐Ÿค”Significant seismic activity is occurring worldwide: Is this a seismic anomaly?

๐ŸŒŽ Could this unusual clustering be followed by an increase in M5–M6+ earthquakes globally over the coming days?

    We don’t know yet.

The next few days will be very interesting to watch.

The magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck near Medan, Indonesia today is concerning as it relates to South and Central America. The reason is it expands the antipodal region to the subduction zone of western SA, whereas the M7.8 Philippines and M7.7 Indonesia were more directly opposite of Venezuela and Colombia, where big earthquake activity has already occurred and is likely over (for now).

Now there is a heightened probability of reciprocal activity (M6.5+, M7.0+) in this location that certainly can rupture with M7.0+ activity at any time based on the geologic dynamics...

PACIFIC RING OF FIRE SENDS DISTRESS SIGNAL: 6 STRONG QUAKES IN THE LAST 10 DAYS!

The Pacific Earth is not doing well. In just a span of 10 days (August 5–15, 2026), the Circum-Pacific Belt (Ring of Fire) has unleashed a consecutive wave of massive tectonic energy. This is no mere statistical coincidence, but a loud alarm for global and national disaster preparedness!

      ๐Ÿ”ฅ
CHAIN OF 6 STRONG PACIFIC QUAKES (AUGUST 5–15, 2026):

      1. Philippines ๐Ÿ‘‰ M6.3 (August 5, 2026)
Strong tremors struck the Philippine Trench, kicking off seismic escalation in the Western Pacific region.
      2. New Zealand ๐Ÿ‘‰ M6.3 (August 5, 2026)
Just hours later, the southern segment of the Ring of Fire in New Zealand released medium-to-strong energy.
      3. Indonesia ๐Ÿ‘‰ M5.7 (August 5, 2026)
Tectonic dynamics spread to the Sunda Arc region, jolting Indonesia.
      4. Philippines ๐Ÿ‘‰ M5.6 (August 6, 2026)
A significant aftershock erupted once again in the Philippines.
      5. Colombia ๐Ÿ‘‰ M7.4 (August 10, 2026)
The eastern side of the Pacific Ring of Fire erupted violently. A shallow M7.4 quake rocked South America.
      6. Indonesia (Flores, NTT) ๐Ÿ‘‰ M7.7 (August 15, 2026)
The peak today! A local mega-thrust M7.7 quake slammed north of Flores, followed by dozens of aftershocks and claiming dozens of lives.

⚡ LATEST UPDATE: TWO INDONESIAN QUAKE ELEMENTS TODAY (AUGUST 15, 2026)

๐Ÿ“ FLORES, NTT (Flores Back-Arc Rise Fault):
      • Magnitude: M7.7 | Depth: Shallow (North Nagekeo Seabed)
      • Aftershocks: BMKG records more than 35+ aftershocks (M3.5 - M5.2) throughout the day.
      • Casualties & Damage: BNPB data confirms at least 38 people dead (mostly in Manggarai & Sikka) and thousands of residents displaced.
      • Vibration Impact: Felt as far as Labuan Bajo, Ruteng, Ende, Maumere, Sumba, Bima, Lombok, and the southern Sulawesi coast.

๐Ÿ“ SIMALUNGUN, NORTH SUMATRA (Indo-Australian Subduction):
      • Time: 5:54 PM WIB | Magnitude: M6.4
      • Depth: 163 km (Intermediate-Deep Quake)
      • Casualties: NONE / No reports of fatal damage from North Sumatra BPBD (NO TSUNAMI POTENTIAL).
      • Vibration Reach: Spread widely from Simalungun, Pematangsiantar (MMI Scale IV), Central Tapanuli, Sibolga, Pandan, Barus (MMI Scale III), to Medan City and Aceh.

๐Ÿ“ข CRITICAL MESSAGE FOR RESIDENTS IN RED ZONES:

      1. Beware of "Stress Transfer" Phenomenon
The massive energy release in Flores (M7.7) and deep deformation in Simalungun (M6.4) prove that the Nusantara tectonic plates are highly active. Stay alert for follow-up pressure releases in the *seismic gap* segments of Flores-Sumbawa-Lombok as well as the Sumatra Fault zones (Renun/Toru).

      2. For NTT Residents & Southern/Eastern Coasts:
      • Do not rush into buildings with structural cracks caused by the chain of aftershocks.
      • If on the coast and feeling strong shaking >20 seconds, immediately self-evacuate to high ground (20-20-20 Principle).

      3. For North Sumatra Residents & Surroundings:
      • Stay calm; the Simalungun quake is at 163 km depth and will not trigger a tsunami.
      • Always check your home's physical structure before sleeping tonight and ignore speculative rumors not from BMKG/BPBD.

The Pacific Ring of Fire has thrown the signal. It's time for local governments and communities to ramp up emergency preparedness! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐ŸŒ
