PAS boycotts Bersatu campaigns as PN rift deepens in Johor polls

PAS HAS officially ordered its election machinery to boycott campaigns in all Johor state constituencies contested by its Perikatan Nasional (PN) ally Bersatu.

PAS Information Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari clarified that party workers will instead focus strictly on seats contested by PAS and other PN components.

This follows PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s confirmation that political cooperation with Bersatu has been terminated.

For the upcoming July 11 polls, PAS has scaled down its campaign to 11 strategic seats, targeting a role as an opposition watchdog and state government adviser.

Meanwhile, Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin stated that his party is not disheartened by PAS’s decision to withhold campaign assistance for Bersatu candidates in the 16th Johor state election.

Speaking after the Bukit Kepong nomination process, Muhyiddin expressed an open attitude toward the boycott. While acknowledging that Perikatan Nasional (PN) components should ideally champion a spirit of mutual aid, he emphasised that Bersatu will not force any ally’s support.

He noted that Bersatu remains highly focused on leveraging its own internal strength and track record, expressing complete confidence that voters know how to choose wisely. — June 27, 2026
