SHAH ALAM: A senior police officer pleaded not guilty in the sessions court here today to accepting a RM2,500 bribe to close an investigation.

Nurul Shimir Izzati Jamil was charged under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act with receiving the money from a man at a restaurant in Puchong on June 16.

The payment was purportedly made to halt an investigation into his wife under the Printing Presses and Publications Act.

If convicted, Shimir faces up to 20 years in jail and a fine of not less than RM10,000.

Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud allowed her bail of RM5,000 with one surety and ordered her to surrender her passport and report to the MACC office in Putrajaya once a month.

The case will be mentioned again on Dec 3.
