Seremban police have clarified that a viral image showing the Malaysian flag being flown upside-down at the district police headquarters is not a recent incident.
District police chief Hatta Che Din said the image, which resurfaced on Facebook yesterday morning, was originally taken in 2016 during the Police Day celebration.
“The incident of the flag being flown upside down occurred in 2016. The image first went viral in 2019 and has now resurfaced for the second time.
“It was detected that the photograph was spread by an irresponsible individual,” he said in a statement today.
Hatta (above) urged the public not to recirculate the old image to avoid creating negative perceptions or doubts among the public.
The latest public outcry follows an incident in Penang, which led to the arrest of hardware store owner Feng Jin Zhen, who was remanded overnight and released on bail.
