PUTRAJAYA, Aug 17 — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa has reminded the public and business premises in the Federal Territories to always honour the Jalur Gemilang as a symbol of the nation’s dignity and identity.
She said that the Malaysian flag, which serves to instil patriotism among the people, must be given due prominence.
Dr Zaliha also advised the public to fly the flag according to the prescribed guidelines.
“What has happened in the recent weeks serves as a reminder for us to be cautious when raising the Malaysian flag, which must be in line with the recommended guidelines, to safeguard the nation’s honour and the symbol of its glory,” she said.
She spoke to reporters after the Madani Brisk Walk 2.0 programme at Taman Saujana, hosted by Putrajaya PKR, here this morning.
Dr Zaliha said the event is in line with the Federal Territories’ vision of becoming a CHASE city (Clean, Healthy, Advanced, Safe and Eco-Friendly).
She also distributed the Jalur Gemilang to programme participants and residents in Putrajaya in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations on August 31 and September 16.
This year’s celebrations carry the theme “Malaysia Madani: Rakyat Disantuni”. — Bernama

Firstly, YB Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, I respect you as a woman so I won't say this - 'jangan cakap ayam' - in English though that's what you have said in general. Mr Pang Chin Tian, the unfortunate hardware shop owner who was arrested for interrogation about the alleged misdeed of flying the Jalur Gemilang upside down, and held in custody for a night in a police station, even though he hadn't even a chance yet to fully raise the Jalur Gemilang and fly it as a flag.
He was just in the process of getting ready to raise the national flag in preparation for Merdeka - a process some said was only 21 seconds whilst Muhammad Najib who wrote in his FB about the ugly incident (yes, blardy ugly, especially for a senior Chinese man) said it was only 10 seconds ('10 saat. Bukannya bendera tu berkibar terbalik tiga hari tiga malam tiada siapa perbetulkan') - when Mr Pang was 'so cleverly tangkap' in a video clip that went on, in that, OK lah say, 21 seconds, to insinuate the 'traitor' (yes OK lah, seorang anak pendatang lah) had desecrated the Jalur Gemilang, and ...
... which you, YB Menteri, re-emphasised or euphemised as, one must be "... cautious when raising the Malaysian flag, which must be in line with the recommended guidelines, to safeguard the nation’s honour and the symbol of its glory,” thus implying that Mr Pang should have been more careful in his citizen duties (and presumably not so 'tiada-apa-ish'). BTW, can you prepare a flag for hoisting and then raise it properly in 21 seconds??
As Muhammad Najib who wrote about the ugly incident had said, "It's not as if the Chinese man had flown the Jalur Gemilang in an upside-down position for 3 days and 3 nights, without any steps to correct it."
Why are you people abusing the Chinese man for a non-existent infraction, using an out-of-context situational appraisal, to an extent he had to spend one frightening night in police custody?
What about UMNO Youth Terengganu's, PAS', Police stations and TLDM errors in the flag???
Ingat OK, in 2007 Adnan Yaakob, then an UMNO supreme council member and also the MB of Pahang, had asked for the symbol of the keris to be removed from the UMNO flag.
He said that the keris is a weapon denoting quarrels, and could have been the cause of the numerous quarrels in the party. In other words it’s bad feng shui for UMNO to have such a nasty weapon as a party symbol.
Adnam stated: "There were 20 major quarrels in UMNO since its formation 60 years ago. The symbol may signify the party’s struggles but it also means quarrels."
He reminded us of the acrimonious internal disputes involving the late Tunku Abdul Rahman (with Tun Razak), Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (with Dr Mahathir), and of course Dr Mahathir (with Ku Li, Anwar and AAB).
Maybe we ought to add in Onn Jaafar (with Tunku). Then there were state leaders such as the late Harun Idris, once touted as a PM, who fell foul of Hussein Onn.
Whenever UMNO Youth wanted to threaten the minority Chinese, the UMNO keris would be drawn, which for a keris, according to belief not just unique to the Malay world, must 'taste' blood. Eastern superstition demands that a weapon such as a keris, dagger or sword must never be drawn unless one intends to 'feed' it with blood. It's bad feng shui to draw a weapon.
Today it has to said that UMNO people, especially the hot-headed ones, no longer draw the keris or raise the May 13 book (though one bloke frigged around with a Jap sword, wakakaka).
But these hot-headed UMNO blokes have a new weapon instead of the keris, to wit, the Jalur Gemilang cum hopefully, unwitting 'mistakes' in flying the national flag by ONLY Chinamen (mistakes by Melayu are exempted), and gnam gnam in stepped Akmal Saleh the new Hishamuddin, wakakaka.
But be careful not to turn the Jalur Gemilang into another UMNO keris. Just be cautious of the ensuing bad feng shui because, the minorities are NOW being very wary of a national symbol, our beloved national flag. How far more do you people want to take the flag to??? To make citizens of Malaysia fear its national flag?
