Cops find ‘positive leads’ on attack on Rafizi’s son
This follows examination of CCTV footage around the shopping mall in Putrajaya where the incident occurred
The attack on Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli’s 12-year-old son occurred at a shopping mall in Putrajaya on Wednesday afternoon.
PETALING JAYA: Police say they have found multiple positive leads in their investigation into the attack on Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli’s son.
Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar said the leads could help hunt down those involved, and followed examination of CCTV footage around the shopping mall where the incident occurred, Bernama reported.
“There are leads from the CCTV recordings, but it’s not complete at this time,” he said.
Shazeli said 14 people have been summoned to assist in the investigation.
Police are also working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to investigate the threatening text messages that Rafizi had received a day after the attack.
The attack on Rafizi’s 12-year-old son occurred at a shopping mall in Putrajaya at about 2pm on Wednesday.
The former PKR deputy president said CCTV footage showed that two men, dressed in black with their faces fully covered by helmets, had followed his wife’s car on a motorcycle before the incident.
His son, who was dragged and stabbed with a syringe, was rushed to hospital for treatment and a checkup.
The assailants escaped.
Rafizi suspected that the attack was planned, and that his wife was likely observed by the assailants for a few days before the attack was carried out.
He also said his son will need to undergo six months of medical tests to rule out the possibility that he was injected with anything dangerous.
