Netizens joke their belongings pale in comparison to RM1.8mil loss in Mirzan house break-In
A BREAK-IN at the home of Mirzan Mahathir, eldest son of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, has resulted in the theft of valuables estimated at RM1.8mil.
The incident occurred on Wednesday (July 23) while Mirzan was away. His daughter Khadijah was home when their domestic helper discovered the rear gate padlock had been cut. Khadijah’s bedroom was found ransacked.
Netizens are commenting in droves on the incident, with some joking that their belongings are nothing compared to Mirzan’s losses.
Fitri Hanafie said, “Ah, the grandchild of Tun Mahathir Mohamad. One breaking and they lost RM1.8mil. If the robbers break into my house, the robbers would be the losers.”
Many Facebook users replied to Fitri’s comment. One user said this comment, among all the comments, made them roll on the floor laughing.
Stolen items included Cartier and Rolex jewellery, pearl tiaras, diamond earrings, jade bangles, heirloom gold, foreign currency, and personal documents.
A police report purportedly linked to the robbery at Mirzan’s house is circulating on WhatsApp. It details the items and their estimated prices.
Another one went further, jokingly saying both the robber and they would hug and cry since they have nothing for a robber to steal.
Putting a political tone to the matter, a user criticised claims of financial hardship by Dr Mahathir’s family, pointing out that even his granddaughter possessed RM1.6mil in valuables.
They express disbelief that some still believe Dr Mahathir is defending Malay interests, accusing him instead of enriching his own family. The commenter also claims that former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak was brought down for targeting Mahathir-era cronies. — July 26, 2025
