RESIDENTS of Kampung Tanjung Bidara were left bewildered when a bull meant for a sacrificial ceremony in conjunction with Aidiladha escaped and was last seen swimming out to sea near the Tanjung Bidara coastline on Sunday night.
The incident, which occurred around 9.30pm, sparked a search operation involving villagers and personnel from the Civil Defence Force (APM). Images and video footage of the bizarre scene quickly spread on social media.
Muhammad Fahmi Abdullah, 28, a witness to the event, said he first noticed the bull swimming in the sea near his food stall but thought little of it at the time.
“Shortly after I went inside my stall, I heard a commotion. A local came over to ask if I had seen a bull that had gotten loose,” he told *Berita Harian*.
“I said I had, and we immediately began searching for it. We spotted the bull still in the water, with a rope around its neck.
“But no one dared to approach it—it was a fierce bull and quite large in size,” he added.
Fahmi said he subsequently contacted the Civil Defence Force for assistance, but by the time rescuers arrived, the animal had disappeared.
Lieutenant (PA) Noor Jauzi Hashim, Officer-in-Charge of the Masjid Tanah Civil Defence Unit, confirmed that his team received a call at 9.42pm. One officer and three APM members were deployed to the scene.
“Despite efforts to search the area, the bull could not be located. Based on public accounts, it is believed the animal was swept away by the current and vanished from sight,” he said, according to Berita Harian.
As of now, the fate of the missing bull remains unknown. - June 7, 2025
