Summary
- Former MCA veep Ti Lian Ker urges the party and its MPs to take leave from the Madani administration, criticising the leadership’s delay in deciding its political stance.
- He says distancing from the government would signal dissent more effectively.
Former MCA vice president Ti Lian Ker has urged the party and its two MPs to “take leave” and distance themselves from the Madani administration.
He criticised party president Wee Ka Siong, who reportedly said party members calling for a decision on the future of the party to wait for its annual general meeting.
Wee’s response, he said, essentially amounted to deferring a decision whether to remain in the ruling coalition for a few months.
“What we need now is a quick and accurate decision, not just reactions and strategies to buy time or procrastinate for an opportunity, because this shows the party and leadership’s weakness and tardiness.
“Why is it so difficult? MCA can take leave while distancing itself from government decisions that are increasingly unfriendly and unpopular to the people.
“Rather than criticising the Madani government every day, let both MCA parliamentarians take leave from the Madani government while remaining with BN and the people.
“Isn’t this political posturing to show dissent?” he asked in a statement today.
MCA is facing an internal struggle over its path to survive the next general election.
While the end goal is clear - for MCA to no longer align itself with the Madani administration - there is discord on whether or not to remain with BN.
When asked about this, Wee reportedly told Free Malaysia Today, “Wait until the annual general meeting. There is no rush”, according to a report on June 24.
