LONDON, April 6 — Israel has detained two British members of parliament and refused entry to the officials who were visiting as part of a parliamentary delegation, British Foreign Minister David Lammy said in a statement late yesterday.
Sky News, citing a statement from the Israeli immigration ministry, says that the detained parliamentarians are Labour MPs Yuan Yang and Abtisam Mohamed, who were rejected because they were suspected of plans to “document the activities of security forces and spread anti-Israel hatred.”
Yang represents the Earley and Woodley constituency, while Mohamed is the MP for Sheffield Central. Both had flown to Israel from Luton yesterday, Sky News said.
“I have made clear to my counterparts in the Israeli government that this is no way to treat British Parliamentarians, and we have been in contact with both MPs tonight to offer our support,” Lammy said.
“The UK government’s focus remains securing a return to the ceasefire and negotiations to stop the bloodshed, free the hostages and end the conflict in Gaza,” he further added. — AFP
Israel, like any other sovereign nation, has the right to bar entry to anyone who intends to make trouble.

DeleteDetention of a person refused entry to the country, until they are on board the next available plane back to out is Standard Procedure the world over.
Malaysia does it, Australia does it.
I have personally witnessed it - in the case, the person in the business group I was travelling with was refused entry to Australia, even though he had a valid visa issued by the Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.
He happened to have a very common Chinese name, which appeared in a "Do Not Allow Entry" list from the Australian Government.
It took some hours of providing additional identification documents to prove he was not the problematic person forbidden entry to Australia.
Fortunately , he was actually allowed in , BUT for the duration until then, he was DETAINED by Australian Immigration.
Not handcuffed or anything, but not allowed to leave the locked room, in case the final decision was to Deport him.
Yuan Yang should pay a visit to Beijing and seek 5000yo Bullyland help to resolve Palestinian issue. Perhaps relocate some to Xinjiang, if they don’t like Jordan or Egypt. Although she gave up citizenship to 5000yo Bullyland and became Citizen of Brittania her historical links may help.
