A Meeting Turned Into Shouting Match – How Trump-Vance Whacked Zelensky Before Kicked Him Out Of The White House

Oksana Markarova, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, appeared to be incredible distraught with her head in her hand during a heated shouting match between Trump and Zelensky in the Oval Office on Friday (Feb 28). Her reaction, captured in photos and videos, speaks volumes about how a first step towards a peace deal was destroyed due to ego and wrong expectations.

What was supposed to be a signing ceremony – a deal securing minerals right for the U.S. to repay the hundreds of billions the American taxpayers sent to Ukraine – quickly spiralled into total chaos. After initially rejected the minerals deal twice, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky finally agreed to sign on the dotted line. But the second the cameras started rolling, the former comedian flipped the script.

Unless the Ukrainian president has been planning to play the Commander-in-Chief and the American people in front of the world’s media, it was an absolutely tactical disaster trying to force Trump’s hand. Did Zelensky really think there would still be free lunches under the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, the same way he had played Joe Biden?

If Zelensky was smart, he should have signed the deal, cash his ill-gotten money from billions of dollars from American aid money and get ready to retire with his wife’s sports car, luxury mansions and luxury yachts. Like it or not, Ukraine has lost. Thinking he could humiliate Trump into reversing the U.S. president’s pro-Putin policy is both childish and dangerous.

It’s true that Ukraine has no cards to play as it depends entirely on American dollars and weapons to defend against Russian forces. The European Union and NATO can’t protect Ukraine without Uncle Sam. Zelensky’s ego could be bruised and challenged in front of the world’s media, hence his sudden change of mind as he was used to get his way under Biden administration.

Sure, call it bullying or extortion or whatever you want. But the last thing Zelensky, and his supporters in Europe, wants is to provoke not only Trump’s ego, but also Vice-President J.D. Vance into a shouting match at the White House. Perhaps Zelensky thought, or taught by European leaders, he should show some strength like Russian Vladimir Putin in order to get some respect from Trump.

We have never seen anything like this in international diplomacy, let alone in the Oval Office. There will be consequences for Zelensky, as history showed that “President Trump is not very kind to people who attack him personally”. Look at what happens to former world’s richest man – Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos. Both billionaires are now busy sucking up to Trump.

So, how did Zelensky’s visit to the White House turned into one of the most heated political confrontations, which did not happen until about 40 minutes of what appeared to be a friendly discussion? In the first 40 minutes, Zelensky kept trying to go beyond what was negotiated in the deal. The argument started when Trump pointed out that it would be hard to make a deal if “you talk about Putin the way Zelensky does”.

Zelensky kept insisting that the Russians were the invaders and cannot be trusted. All hell broke loose when Vance spoke and the Ukrainian leader started to argue in hostile manner. The U.S. Vice President saw it as a challenge and retaliated to Zelensky hostile questions. It showed not only Zelensky’s arrogance and incompetence, but also his lack of emotional intelligence.

It doesn’t matter that the European leaders supported Zelensky. The man whom Trump and Vance accused of disrespected the U.S. is screwed when Ukrainian’s biggest cheerleader, Senator Lindsey Graham, slammed Zelensky and told reporters that it’s uncertain whether the U.S. can ever do business with the Ukrainian president – even suggested he should resign.

More importantly, Graham said – “I have never been more proud of the president. I was very proud of JD Vance standing up for our country. What I saw in the Oval Office was disrespectful. And I don’t know if we can ever do business with Zelensky again”. Trump then kicked Zelensky out and the White House staffs happily ate the lunch prepared for the Ukrainian president.

After cancelling a scheduled press conference with Zelensky, President Trump then wrote on social media – “He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace”. Someone should tell Zelensky that beggars can’t be choosers, let alone trying to start a World War 3. Below was the conversation of how the clash started.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky: What kind of diplomacy, JD, are you asking about? What do you mean?

US Vice-President J.D. Vance: I’m talking about the kind of diplomacy that’s going to end the destruction of your country.

Zelensky: Yes, but if you…

Vance: Mr President, with respect, I think it’s disrespectful for you to come to the Oval Office and try to litigate this in front of the American media. Right now, you guys are going around and forcing conscripts to the front lines because you have manpower problems. You should be thanking the president.

Zelensky: Have you ever been to Ukraine to see the problems we have?

Vance: I’ve actually watched and seen the stories, and I know what happens is you bring people on a propaganda tour, Mr President.

Do you disagree that you’ve had problems with bringing people in your military, and do you think that it’s respectful to come to the Oval Office of the United States of America and attack the administration that is trying to prevent the destruction of your country?

Zelensky: First of all, during the war, everybody has problems, even you. You have a nice ocean and don’t feel (it) now, but you will feel it in the future.

US President Donald Trump: You don’t know that. Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel. We’re trying to solve a problem. Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel.

Zelensky: I am not telling you, I am answering…

Vance: That’s exactly what you’re doing…

Trump, raising his voice: You’re in no position to dictate what we’re going to feel. We’re going to feel very good and very strong.

Zelensky tries to interrupt.

Trump: You right now are not in a very good position. You’ve allowed yourself to be in a very bad position.

You don’t have the cards right now. With us, you start having the cards.

You’re gambling with lives of millions of people, you’re gambling with World War III and what you’re doing is very disrespectful to this country.

Vance: Have you said thank you once?

Zelensky: A lot of times.

Vance: No, in this meeting, this entire meeting? Offer some words of appreciation for the United States of America and the president who’s trying to save your country.

Zelensky: Yes, you think that if you will speak very loudly about the war…

Trump: He’s not speaking loud. Your country is in big trouble. No, no, you’ve done a lot of talking. Your country is in big trouble.

Zelensky: I know, I know.

Trump: You’re not winning this. You have a damn good chance of coming out OK, because of us.

Zelensky: We are staying strong from the very beginning of the war, we have been alone, and we are saying, I said, thanks.

Trump, speaking over Zelensky: You haven’t been alone… We gave you military equipment. Your men are brave, but they had our military. If you didn’t have our military equipment, this war would have been over in two weeks.

Zelensky: I heard it from Putin in three days.

Trump: It’s going to be a very hard thing to do business like this.

Vance: Just say thank you.

Zelensky: I said it a lot of times.

Vance: Accept that there are disagreements and let’s go litigate those disagreements rather than trying to fight it in the American media, when you’re wrong. We know that you’re wrong.

Trump: You’re buried there. Your people are dying. You’re running low on soldiers. No, listen… And then you tell us, ‘I don’t want a cease fire. I don’t want a cease fire. I want to go and I want this.’

Trump: You’re not acting at all thankful. And that’s not a nice thing. I’ll be honest, that’s not a nice thing. All right, I think we’ve seen enough. What do you think? Great television. I will say that.
