Former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad has once again hit back at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, accusing him of making baseless allegations regarding the wealth of his family.


In a strongly worded statement on his blog, Dr. Mahathir criticized Anwar for repeatedly suggesting that his son was a billionaire, claiming the total assets of his children amounted to RM1.2 billion. The former premier refuted the figure, clarifying that the amount in question was split between his two sons, Mirzan and Mokhzani.


"MACC has already explained that Mirzan’s wealth is RM120 million, while Mokhzani’s is RM316 million. Even when combined, the total is RM436 million. So where did Anwar get the RM1.2 billion figure from?" Dr. Mahathir questioned.


He also took issue with insinuations that his sons had accumulated their wealth through misappropriation of government funds. "What is the evidence that they have embezzled Government money. The MACC statement does not mention this," he asserted.


Dr. Mahathir, who has long been at odds with Anwar, revealed that he had filed a defamation lawsuit against the Prime Minister over these allegations two years ago. However, he claimed that Anwar had yet to provide any evidence to support his claims.


Despite this, the Prime Minister continues to repeat the accusations, further implying that Mahathir himself had illicitly gained billions in government funds. Responding to this, Dr. Mahathir issued a challenge, stating, "Maybe Anwar knows where this billion is. I don't know. Anwar can give me information on where this money I have is and I will give it all 100% to the poor."


He ended his statement with a sharp rebuke, suggesting that if Anwar could not substantiate his claims, then "Otherwise, Anwar, when he opens his mouth, is lying".


This latest exchange marks yet another chapter in the long-standing rivalry between the two political veterans, keeping tensions high in Malaysia’s political landscape.

See, he keeps asking for proof, he never once denied it. He knows there's no proof, because he had 22 yrs to cover it up fully. Him and Daim. Islam demands proof. No proof, no guilt. What he is forgetting is that each time his family is mentioned, including sons, daughters, grandchildren, it will be with ignominy, with the shadow of corruption looming over them every waking minute. That is the irony of his so-called legacy. His name in disrepute for eternity.
