German snap election may not be possible because of 'lack of paper for ballots'
Thanks 'MF':
The Telegraph:
Germany's electoral commission warns that early elections may face challenges due to a shortage of paper. Chancellor Olaf Scholz, under pressure to call a snap election following the collapse of his coalition, is reconsidering his timeline.
Ruth Brand, president of the commission, stated that procuring necessary materials is a "great challenge." The opposition has criticized the delays, calling for elections within 60 days. CDU leader Friedrich Merz opposes supporting Scholz's agenda for quick elections, emphasizing the need for a government with a majority. Current polling shows CDU leading at 33%.
UPDATE: The German paper industry contradicts the election director: "We have paper. The German paper industry is very efficient."
Most of their paper is now imported from China
ReplyDeleteWhat a crappy know nothingness!
DeleteGermany
The second largest paper exporter, with $25.4 billion in exports in 2024
Who would import paper, especially voting paper, when itself is a large scale producer?
