A road construction worker has accused a Pahang royalty of being involved in an attack in which he was stabbed and shot at.

Alias Awang, 44, told Malaysiakini the alleged incident occurred at a stable in Kuantan on June 6. He then lodged a police report on June 8.

The father of eight went to the alleged scene of the incident after receiving a phone call from an individual, who is believed to be linked to the royalty, to meet him there.

“Some 20 people, including the son of the Tengku (a royal title), attacked me.

“One of them stabbed me with a knife in the right thigh. The Tengku’s son shot at my leg but missed,” he claimed.

Later that night, Alias (above) claimed to have learnt that the attack was related to a plot of land in Rompin where he was involved in the construction of a road.

In his police report sighted by Malaysiakini, the worker had sought treatment for his injuries at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan. However, he had declined to be warded.

According to the police report, Alias claimed he was dragged into the stable and assaulted as soon as he arrived.

The worker told Malaysiakini that the police had called him twice to record his statements.

“Several days ago, the police called me to the station again to confirm the name of the person who stabbed me,” he added.

Malaysiakini has reached out to the Pahang palace as well as the royalty implicated for comment.

Three men remanded for seven days

Kuantan district police chief Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu told Malaysiakini that three men, including an individual believed to be the main suspect, were arrested and remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations before being released on police bail.

He said two others were also arrested but released after their statements were recorded.

However, Wan Zahari declined to comment when asked about the alleged involvement of a royalty in the incident.

“We have arrested the primary suspect in this case and we are waiting for further instructions from the deputy public prosecutor,” he added.

On the allegation that a firearm was discharged during the incident, he said the police are still investigating the matter.

“If there is a need to investigate further, we will do so. We will investigate all angles,” he added.

Wan Zahari said the case was investigated under Sections 324 and 148 of the Penal Code.

Section 324 concerns “voluntarily causing hurt by means of any instrument for shooting, stabbing or cutting, or any instrument” whereas Section 148 is related to those “who attend, take part in or is found at any riot and who has in his possession at such riot any firearm, ammunition, explosive, corrosive, injurious or obnoxious substance, stick, stone or any weapon or missile capable of use as a weapon.”

  1. Plenty of Royal-related abuse of power in Malusia.
Just that only once in a while it pops up above the surface.
