Zaid slams ‘fear’ of
opening UiTM course to
non-Bumis
The former law minister says helping non-Malays enter the university’s cardiothoracic surgery programme would solve the nation’s problem.
PETALING JAYA: Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim today urged against allowing the fear of having more non-Malay doctors, nurses or lecturers stop Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) from opening its cardiothoracic surgery programme to non-Bumiputeras.
In a post on X, Zaid said there were no outstanding issues beyond the “perennial” fear of opening UiTM to non-Bumiputeras.
“This is Umno’s problem. Umno, it would help if you started looking at things differently. The nation must come first. We are short of all kinds of medical specialists in public health. We are short of nurses.
“UiTM was started to help Bumiputeras and should continue to do so. But today, we have to recognise that helping non-Malays enter UiTM also helps Bumiputeras by solving the nation’s problem.
“Umno must exorcise itself of this irrational fear. We are now one country with more significant problems but have enough resources to serve every group,” he said.
Zaid was responding to higher education minister Zambry Abd Kadir, who said there had been no discussions on opening UiTM’s cardiothoracic surgery postgraduate programme to non-Bumiputera students.
Zambry said several underlying issues, which he did not specify, needed to be addressed before the proposal to accept non-Bumiputera students could be considered.
“We haven’t engaged in any discussions yet, nor have we received official communication on this matter,” he was quoted as saying in a Berita Harian report.
“It is crucial to resolve the fundamental issues before delving into such proposals.”
Not that the ketuanan elites DON'T know anything about the catfish effect - a psychological term that defines a situation where a new & strong societal competitor would induce strong competiting mindset amongst the other members to strike for harder & better skill sets to compete with the new comer.

Once the iPhone started to capture the lucrative smart phone market, the locals started to invest & invent their own smart phones to compete for survival. Thus removing the copycat mentality prevailing before the entrance of iPhone.
Ditto with the new EV phenomenon. The presence of Tesla, inspired a new generation of entrepreneurs into designing & manufacturing their own EV models. Within a few yrs, China EV r a force to recognize throughout the world.
Otherwise, the Chinese car market would forever captivated within the joined ventures of ICE models with foreign partners who could easily earned a big fat IP profit for just parting old & obsoleted ICE technologies to the Chinese partners. Meanwhile the Chinese companies had zilch way to reinventing themselves out of the absolute tech IP controls of these foreign car companies with their long held ICE inventions.
By keeping uitm absolutely for the melayu & Sabah/Sarawak natives, that inspiring catfish effect is lost. Instead, whole generations of giatunas 'prifessionals' r been generated w/o real skills & motives of creation. Many of these graduates r mediocre & some even hp6 in academic achievements. Yet they r easily fitted into position of power & authority just bcoz of their skin/religion.
W/O the presence of a strong outside competitor, these weaklings r forever greenhouse strawberries that could NEVER achieve anything by their own efforts!
These suit the mindset of the ketuanan elites true & through. By creating 躺平 generations of blurred weaklings, their gripping of power & wealth r ensured!
