Rosmah obtains default
judgment against TikToker
The judge ruled in the 72-year-old’s favour after Ku Hilmie Ku Din, 34, failed to enter his appearance against her suit.
PETALING JAYA: Rosmah Mansor today obtained judgment in default against the owner of a TikTok account in a defamation suit she brought in the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
Judge Ahmad Shahrir Salleh allowed the application by Rosmah, 72, after defendant Ku Hilmie Ku Din, 34, had failed to enter his appearance against the suit on the set date, Bernama reported.
However, the general, aggravated and exemplary damages will be assessed later by the court.
The proceedings were attended by lawyers Sureshmurti Ramani and Baharudeen Ariff representing Rosmah.
The wife of former prime minister Najib Razak had filed her suit on Sept 19, 2023 accusing Ku Hilmie of posting a video on his TikTok account containing defamatory and untrue elements on March 22, 2023.
Rosmah claimed the defamatory statements implied that she committed sinful acts, was involved in satanic activities and witchcraft, and was a malicious individual who practised syirik (idolatry).
She claimed these statements damaged her reputation as the wife of Malaysia’s sixth prime minister and as a generally known patron of charitable organisations in Malaysia.
Rosmah also claimed the defamatory statements caused her to be viewed negatively by the public, ridiculed and insulted, thereby tarnishing her reputation as a prominent public figure.
