Urimai begins its 'don't vote Harapan' campaign

KKB BY-ELECTION | DAP splinter party Urimai began groundwork in Kuala Kubu Baharu today to encourage voters not to vote for Pakatan Harapan.

Party chairperson P Ramasamy said this was to teach a lesson to the federal government led by Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim, who he alleged had failed to fulfil their promises to Malaysians.

“I am not here to canvass votes for any party. Instead, we are here to tell voters not to vote for Harapan,” he told journalists in Kuala Kubu Baharu.

“They (voters) can choose to vote for either Perikatan Nasional, Parti Rakyat Malaysia, or the independent candidate. That is their choice, and we will not interfere,” he added.

The Harapan candidate for the by-election is DAP’s Pang Sock Tao.

Ramasamy claimed that DAP’s decision to nominate Pang, who is Local Government and Housing Minister Nga Kor Ming’s aide, clearly showed that the party was now practising cronyism.

The former Penang deputy chief minister said Urimai has campaigned in several polling districts thus far including Rasa, Kerling, Batang Kali, and Kuala Kubu Baharu town.

Once a staunch supporter of Anwar when he was in DAP, Ramasamy said he is now “bored” of the prime minister’s alleged weakness and inefficiency.

“I realise this by-election won’t affect Anwar’s position nor the (Selangor) state government.

“But what is important is to send a message that the people are sick of Anwar’s empty promises,” he said.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election is being held following the death of three-term incumbent Lee Kee Hiong, 58, due to cancer on March 21.

Polling in the four-cornered fight will be held on May 11.

  1. A political party that has no candidate in the election should refrain from such negative campaigning.
