Prof Tajuddin urges public to reject UMNO’s call for boycott of KK Mart





LOCAL university Professor Dr Mohd Tajuddin Mohd Rasdi and three other personalities have urged the public in general not to boycott KK Mart over the ‘stocking’ incident, saying it is “an excessive act bordering on bullying and political opportunism to play the race and religious cards”.

They also cast doubt on whether UMNO is a good partner in the unity government.

This is what the four personalities said in a letter addressed to the population and signed by him and the three others. They are Tawfik Tun Dr Ismail, Stephen Ng and Dr K N Singh.

The letter starts with the group saying they are appalled and disgusted at the decision of UMNO Supreme Council to support UMNO Youth leader Dr Akmal Salleh in his call to boycott KK Mart over the ‘stocking’ incident.

“I am, therefore, making a serious statement that we Malaysians will reject the call of UMNO to boycott the KK Supermart because it is an excessive act bordering on bullying and political opportunism to play the race and religious cards.

“We, Malaysians of all races and religions, totally reject the decision of UMNO to support Akmal Salleh in the boycott of KK Supermart over the ‘stocking’ incident. We feel that UMNO has proposed an excessive punishment bordering on bullying, extremism, and political opportunism,” they letter wrote.

The letter also calls for the people to allow for the investigation of the matter by the authorities and await the outcome and punishment by the authorities, ‘not by UMNO extremists.’

Moreover, the letter mentioned that Malaysians should accept the apologies made by the KK Supermart for a mistake made either by their negligence or dereliction of duties in the display of the stocking with the name Allah.

The group added that they honour the names of all the Gods in our religions, including the sacred name ‘Allah’, respect all races and religions, and honour the values “of all our religions in forgiveness, compassion, tolerance and understanding”.

It ends with the group lambasting UMNO, calling it extremist and calling upon the political party headed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi “to mend its false ways of the past, but now we doubt that UMNO could be a good partner in our unity government forged by the hopes of the incumbent Yang DiPertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah”. – March 23, 2024
