Mat Sabu: PAS will reach out to DAP within 'an hour' of Amanah’s absence

PAS would immediately extend an olive branch to DAP if Amanah were to cease cooperation with the latter, claimed Mohamad Sabu.
In urging his party members to stay calm over PAS’ incessant attacks on DAP, the Amanah president said the Islamist party would stop all criticisms because gaining power was its only motivation.
“If Amanah stops cooperating with DAP at 2pm, PAS would reach out to the latter within an hour.
“So, keep calm and ignore PAS’ tantrums. Time will show how fickle they can be,” Mohamad said on Facebook.
On Jan 22, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang criticised the DAP again, accusing the latter of being “disloyal to the country”.
He claimed that DAP’s ‘Malaysian Malaysia” concept was aimed at weakening the special privileges accorded to the Malays.
“In terms of respecting the national language, DAP (members) keep using their own mother tongue and the language of the imperialists in official administration, politics, economy and its struggles,” Harakah Daily quoted him as saying.
Hadi also alleged that DAP does not respect the constitutional monarchy as the party does not accept honorific titles conferred by the rulers by setting its own rules on the matter.
“DAP has shown a more facetious attitude because it still defends the principles and concepts of those who do not respect the rulers,” he further alleged.
According to DAP’s current policy, it states that only retired party members are allowed to accept honours from heads of state and federal government.
Exceptions have been made for cases when DAP members are recommended for an award by the palace itself.
Remember past Umno-PAS rivalry?
Meanwhile, Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, cited the example of how PAS cooperated with Umno despite both parties being bitter rivals for decades, following Pakatan Harapan’s win in 2018.
“PAS’ clash with Umno was not only on politics but also involved issues related to the faith.
“But after 2018, PAS had no qualms about working with Umno to unseat the previous Harapan administration…years of differences were forgotten,” said the agriculture and food security minister.
Mohamad then reminded PAS of its association with DAP, which was longer than its cooperation with Umno.
When they were allies, he said PAS always praised DAP for respecting the Federal Constitution and democratic rights, but are now criticising DAP.
DAP had worked with the Islamist party to form Barisan Alternatif in 1999 until 2001, and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) from 2008 to 2015.
Both DAP and PAS were members of the three-party opposition PR before the bloc fell apart in 2015.
