PETALING JAYA - Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Maimunah Iskandariah, has conveyed her wish to adopt two-year-old Missclyen Roland, a Sarawakian baby girl suffering from congenital generalised hypertrichosis (CGH) syndrome.

Theresa Guntin, Missclyen’s mother, shared a heartfelt letter from Istana Negara, dated October 10, 2023, on her Facebook yesterday.

In the letter from Istana Negara, Tunku Azizah expressed her intention to adopt Missclyen, providing assurances that the costs of her education and treatment for hypertrichosis (known as Werewolf Syndrome) would be covered.

“I hope that this assistance will alleviate the burden on Missclyen’s father in providing care and raising her,” the letter read.

Missclyen's father, Roland Jimbai, said his daughter who was born with thick hair on her face and body due to CGH syndrome, expressed his gratitude after reading the content of the letter from Istana Negara.

He said he received the letter from Sarawak's Women, Children, and Community Wellbeing Minister, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, during a 'doa selamat' ceremony for Missclyen recently.

"I was surprised and did not expect Missclyen to capture the Raja Permaisuri Agong's attention for adoption. I thank Tunku Azizah for her care and concern for my special child," he said

Roland, who works at a welding workshop in Bintulu said he had only received an official letter from Istana Negara and had not received an invitation to meet with Tunku Azizah.

The 49-year-old said they are just ordinary people and with the hardship that they are facing, they may not be able to give the fullest to Missclyen.

“It is hoped that my daughter’s life, especially in terms of her health and education, will be much better in the future.

“This means our little Missclyen is a princess. And we will call her Princess Missclyen,” he said.

Theresa, in her post, shared her disbelief and described that the whole incident was like a dream.

“You (Missclyen) are very fortunate and hope everything will go smoothly,” she said.

Roland and Theresa have four children, including three daughters and one son, with Missclyen being the youngest.

On Sept 10, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong met Missclyen when the Kembara Kenali Borneo convoy stopped at the grounds of Al-Falah Mosque, Kampung Penan Muslim Batu 10, Bintulu-Miri.

Their Majesties’ visit to the state from Sept 3 to 13, covered a total distance of 2,154km from Tawau, Sabah, to Telok Melano, Sarawak, along the Pan Borneo Highway, which connects Sabah, Sarawak, and Brunei. - The Vibes, November 2, 2023
