Don’t be surprised if PKR, DAP, PAS form alliance in the future, says Wee

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has the right to invite any political parties – including PAS – to join the unity government.

Wee also said that the prime minister even has the power to form the Cabinet and change any minister, and that no one has the right to question his decision.

According to the Ayer Hitam MP, the prime minister’s offer to PAS to join the unity government indicates one thing, that “in politics, there is no permanent enemy”, and that it was an art that tries to make “the impossible, possible”.

“PKR and DAP worked together with PAS in 2008 and 2013 in the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition and as an opposition party against Barisan Nasional (BN),” Wee said in a Facebook post last night (Oct 12).

“Besides that, PKR, DAP and PAS once together became the Selangor government. I will not be surprised if these three parties will form an alliance again in the future.

“My suggestion is for the media to direct their questions to the prime minister, PAS and DAP,” the MCA president said.

Wee was commenting on Anwar’s statement when interviewed by Time Magazine on Wednesday (Oct 11) when the prime minister said that he had indeed sent out an invitation to PAS to join the unity government last year.

According to Anwar, PAS’s answer was neither a clear rejection nor a positive response.

However, the Tambun MP indicated that the door for PAS to join his administration was still open.

“I don’t want to preclude that (PAS joining government). Of course, contingent upon these major policy conditions being accepted,” Anwar stressed.

In separate news, Johor MCA Youth chief Ling Tian Soon said MCA is willing to put aside its past rivalry with any party in the coalition government, including DAP, for the sake of the rakyat and country.

“The current political scenario has changed. MCA used to be under BN, but now we are under the coalition government, and this is unprecedented in the country’s history.

“So, MCA must be always open to talking and working with all quarters, including with DAP. If it’s for the benefit of the rakyat and country, why not?” Ling was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia today (Oct 13).

Ling also further added that MCA would not ask for any positions in the government amid rumours of a looming Cabinet reshuffle.

“MCA will not ask for any seats (positions), as this is a coalition government. Whether or not there is a position, we will work with the government for reforms.

“Whatever the decision is, it is Anwar’s prerogative, and we respect that,” Ling stressed.

Ling expressed hope that MCA will return to its glory days under BN leadership. “We have to rise up again and the party has to carry out various programmes to ensure it remains relevant in looking after the welfare and wellbeing of the multiracial rakyat in the country,” he further remarked. – Oct 13, 2023
