ABANG JO WAGGING THE SEMENANJUNG

Abang Johari said this recently:

https://www.malaymail.com/news/malaysia/2023/08/19/premier-oil-gas-extracted-in-sarawak-territory-must-be-split-equally-between-petros

KUCHING, Aug 19 — Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said today that any extraction from oil and gas fields found within Sarawak’s territorial waters must be split equally with state-owned Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros)

Abang Jo has also said this:

Then Nur Jazlan said this :

https://www.malaymail.com/news/malaysia/2023/08/19/nur-jazlan-suggests-some-umno-mps-may-quit-to-trigger-by-elections/86091

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — Umno’s decline could motivate some of its federal lawmakers to resign and trigger automatic by-elections that would give political rivals the chance to increase its numbers in Parliament, Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said.

My Comments :

Sarawak people say that Abang Jo and GPS are increasingly unhappy with the DAP and PKR in Sarawak. Although GPS has joined the PH coalition, the PH can still hold on to power without the GPS.  Slimmer margin but they have just over 112 Parliamentary seats even without GPS

Unlike Perikatan Nasional (PN) both DAP  and PKR  have had their own presence in Sarawak for some time. The DAP has been in Sarawak since the 1960s. With the DAP and PKR now occupying the Federal gomen obviously both of them are not averse to the idea of taking over Sarawak sometime - on their own - minus GPS.

Talk is the SUPP (a major component of the GPS) is especially unhappy over the DAP paying extra attention on Chinese schools in Sarawak since the PH came into power.   Obviously to woo the Chinese vote. This will certainly encroach into the SUPP's own popularity among the Chinese community in Sarawak. SUPP has a substantial Chinese membership and following in Sarawak. And if the SUPP is weakened then of course the GPS which is led by Abang Johari will also be weakened.

The PH can therefore pose a threat to Abang Jo and the GPS in Sarawak if both the DAP and PKR hatch their own plans for Sarawak - minus GPS.

The PN does not pose a similar threat to the GPS because Bersatu is not a player in Sarawak and Pas is also a non-starter in the State.

Nur Jazlan's announcement also seems "timely" because if a few UMNO MPs quit from PH that may make things more dicey for the PH.

Abang Jo can wag the Semenanjung - all the way from Sarawak.

Here is an old song by Mark Williams, with a September in it :

  1. Abang Jo is quite comfortable with the PAS brand of Islamist politics throughout Malaysia, as long as they leave Sarawak alone.
