Ayob Khan: “Ask Hamzah where he got his information from”
DEPUTY Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay has revealed that he had no idea where opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin acquired intelligence indicating Perikatan Nasional (PN) would win the Selangor state election.
Ayob Khan said that only the PN secretary-general is able to reveal his intelligence source, purportedly from the police, who had claimed that the coalition was set to win the forthcoming Selangor state polls.
“You (media) have to ask him how he got the information. I do not know. Maybe Hamzah has a lot of sources. You have to ask him,” Ayob Khan said after launching the flag handing over ceremony for the 2023 World Police and Fire Games Championship, which will take place in Winnipeg, Canada.
Ayob Khan was referring to Hamzah, who is also Bersatu secretary-general’s claim that that he still received some intelligence about the upcoming state polls from his “friends in the police”.
On Sunday night (July 23), Hamzah bragged that his “friends in the force” had purportedly fed him with information about PN actually leading in Selangor during a PN ceramah in Tanjung Karang.
According to Hamzah, this was contrary to caretaker Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari’s claim that Pakatan Harapan (PH) is the front-runner in the state.
“Today (July 23), I heard Amirudin saying that PH are confident that they are still leading. That is what Amirudin claimed,” Hamzah was quoted as saying by Malaysiakini.
The Larut MP said that he was once a former home minister and that he still have many friends in the police force.
“They told me that what Amirudin said was not from their report. The original report, as Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi said earlier, is that PN is still the front runner in Selangor and insyaAllah, PN will win in this election,” Hamzah said.
Yunus is the incumbent Sijangkang assemblyperson, and also the Kuala Langat MP and Selangor PAS commissioner.
In a separate matter, Ayob Khan denied that there was a six-month plan and plot to arrest caretaker Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
Sanusi had previously claimed the main objective is to arrest him, tarnish his image, and undermine his credibility as they want to prevent him from giving speeches as people won’t listen to someone who has been arrested.
According to Ayob Khan, the incumbent Jeneri assemblyman was arrested for making insulting remarks towards the Selangor sultan during a speech on July 12.
“Therefore, there is no issue or alleged conspiracy because The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) made the arrest based on the reports received.
“When there are statements deemed insulting to the institution of the Sultan, an investigation must be conducted,” Ayob Khan said.
On July 18, Sanusi was arrested at his hotel at 3am in the morning and was later charged with two counts of sedition against Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah at the Sessions Court in Selayang to which he pleaded not guilty to making a statement alleged to be seditious.
Both charges are framed under Section 4(1) (a) of the Sedition Act 1948 and punishable under Section 4(1) of the same law, which provides a maximum fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to three years or both if convicted. – July 25, 2023
