Cops complete probe on Dr M's alleged 'royal institution contempt'

The police have completed a probe against former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad over his statements that contained alleged elements of contempt towards the royal institution.
In a statement, police secretary Noorsiah Saaduddin said the investigation paper will be referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers on Tuesday (June 6).
“Police have completed its investigation papers on Mahathir with regards to contempt towards the royal institution,” said Noorsiah.
Yesterday, lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali said Mahathir (above) was questioned about a video purportedly showing the 97-year-old speaking at a private function.
In the video, Mahathir allegedly made a remark that the Malays cannot rely on the Malay rulers to protect them.
He also purportedly divulged that he has no respect for the rulers.
At the same time, Mahathir was also questioned under Section 124B of the Penal Code for alleged activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.
Rafique described the questioning as “intimidation” and revealed there were six police reports lodged against the “Malay Proclamation”.
“Meanwhile, (a separate) investigation on the Malay Proclamation issue is ongoing,” Noorsiah said.
The Malay Proclamation is Mahathir’s latest initiative aimed to “unite and save the Malay community”.
On investigations regarding the proclamation, Noorsiah said police will also be recording statements from PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and DAP’s P Ramasamy.
