Nga: Rantau Panjang MP needs to apologise, stop lying

Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming has called on Rantau Panjang MP Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff to apologise for using water from a fire hydrant.

Without naming names, Nga (above) also advised Siti Zailah to stop lying just to defend her actions.

“I call on any party involved - I don't want to mention names even though it's public knowledge - to apologise to the Fire Department. And if it's true, stop making untrue statements.

“I have been told by officers, based on media reports, the opposition MP said they took water with permission from the Fire Department.

“Based on investigation, it is clear and has been verified by the state Fire Department director, that there was no permission given.

“Therefore this act of lying is a sin. Don’t continue sinning, it is not good. That is my advice,” he said during a press conference in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan today.

Nga said however that he would leave it up to the department to take action against the MP, based on existing legal provisions.

Siti Zailah denied "stealing" water from fire hydrants yesterday, saying she had approval from the Fire and Rescue Department as well as Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB).

However, Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department chief Zainal Madasin said there was no record of her asking permission.

The PAS lawmaker made several Facebook postings last month depicting her observing how water from a fire hydrant was channelled into a tanker that distributed free water supply for her constituents during a shortage.

‘People will be victims’

Meanwhile, Nga said today that Siti Zailah had allegedly committed an offence under Section 26 of the Fire Services Act 1988.

Section 26 provides that any person who tampers with a fire hydrant or uses it other than for firefighting purposes is guilty of an offence.

“Anyone who wants to take water from the fire hydrant must get written permission from the Fire Department.

“This message is very important because, if not, if this happens or is done arbitrarily when there is a fire, the Fire Department will have difficulties with water pressure, and insufficient volume of water. Then the people will be the victims,” said Nga.

He said if found guilty, the former deputy women, family and community development minister could be fined between RM100 and RM500.

“But if she is found guilty for the second time, she will not be compounded again but instead charged in court,” he said.

Nga added that he had ordered the Fire and Rescue Department to conduct an investigation against Siti Zailah.

This is on top of the detailed probe conducted by the Local Government Development Ministry.

  1. Unauthorised use of a fire hydrant will be subject to a fine....
Both PAS and the government should just apply the law, and move on.
Right now , Nga looks very petty trying to blow up the issue.
