Shahidan not on list of Selangor PAS candidates
The party’s state chapter says the candidates shortlisted comprise those who hail from Selangor.
Selangor PAS said the state chapter would lend its support if the central leadership decides to field Shahidan Kassim in a state seat.
PETALING JAYA: Shahidan Kassim’s name is not among PAS’ shortlisted candidates for the upcoming Selangor state election.
This comes in the wake of Shahidan having reportedly hinted at contesting in one of the upcoming six state elections. While he did not reveal which seat he was eyeing, there was speculation that he was eyeing the Semenyih seat in Selangor.
Selangor PAS secretary Roslan Shahir said the party’s state chapter had identified its candidates but Shahidan’s name was not discussed.
“So far, the shortlisted list comprises those who were originally from Selangor. There’s been no discussion to field Shahidan,” Roslan told Utusan Malaysia.
However, he said that it is not known whether the central leadership had considered fielding Shahidan in any of the state seats for the upcoming polls.
Nonetheless, Roslan said the state chapter would lend its support if the central leadership decided to field Shahidan in a state seat.
Shahidan had served as federal territories minister from August 2021 to November 2022 and as a minister in the prime minister’s department from 2013 to 2018
The Selangor state assembly has 56 seats. A simple majority of 29 seats is enough to form the state government.
