Disciple Najib berates his mentor’s trademark blame game, wonders when this will end





“EVERYTHING is not his fault. Apparently, he is only a wooden pole for the 22-year duration he was PM4 (fourth prime minister).”

Whether “the wooden pole” analogy is made out of vengeance or otherwise, who could blame incarcerated former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak for expressing such view when it would probably resonate with many of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s fans who have begun to distance themselves en masse from him in recent times.

This comes after Malaysia’s longest serving ex-premier (24 years in total over two stints) and the world’s oldest statesman (appointed PM at 95 during his second stint) infuriated Malaysians yesterday (March 22) by ‘shifting the blame’ to the then inspector-general of police (IGP) Tun Hanif Omar for calling the Ops Lalang in October 1987.

“A PM has to listen to the police. They are responsible for the security of the nation. Their opinions and advice cannot be simply brushed aside,” Dr Mahathir defended himself in a Facebook post following an uproar over his role in curtailing the freedom of 106 or more Malaysians by detaining them under the draconian Internal Security Act (ISA).



In his rebuttal, the disciple in Najib took a jibe at his so-called mentor:

“(For the) Memali tragedy, he blamed (the then Deputy PM) Tun Musa Hitam. (In the) sacking of Lord President Tun Salleh Abas’, he blamed (former attorney-general Tan Sri) Abu Talib (Othman) and the (Yang di-Pertuan) Agong,” chastised the former Pekan MP.

“And the latest (yesterday), he blamed Tun Hanif for the ISA mass arrest under Ops Lalang,”

Ironically, Najib himself was not spared as the nonagenarian statesman has also previously blamed him for the ringgit’s downfall by sarcastically implying that “Najib turun, ringgit naik” (Najib steps down, ringgit appreciates).



“(But) Najib has stepped down for the past five years. Have even been put in jail by you. Tun, when is ringgit going up?” the disciple gave the mentor a dose of his own medicine.

Delving further into Dr Mahathir’s blame game, Najib also took a swipe at his mentor for claiming that “Malays are sidelined, oppressed and even mooted a proclamation” after he has lost power.

“(But) when he wields power, he would deem Malays as lazy, very forgetful, not good at politics, need to tighten their belt, shouldn’t be envious of the rich (including non-Malay cronies) and that his children are examples of Malays who are good in business,” berated Najib.

“Enough is enough. Don’t ride on the Malay name anymore.” – March 23, 2023
