Probe PKR, DAP also over GE15 spending, says Muhyiddin’s ex-aide

PETALING JAYA: A former aide to Muhyiddin Yassin has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the expenditures of PKR and DAP during the recent general election (GE15).

Marzuki Mohamad said both Pakatan Harapan parties produced a lot of campaign materials, used many vehicles, and had a large presence on social media before the Nov 19 polls.

“This does not include the jet and helicopter rented for Anwar Ibrahim’s use during the campaign, as well as other costs involving the party’s (PKR’s) election machinery,” he said in a Facebook post.

Estimating that the two parties would have spent hundreds of millions of ringgit for their GE15 campaign, Marzuki said MACC should look into the sources of their funds.

He said it would be unfair for MACC to only investoigate Bersatu when PKR and DAP also spent large amounts of money during GE15, adding that Barisan Nasional should also be investigated.

“PKR and DAP are part of the state government in Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan. Did they receive any contributions from businessmen who conducted business with those (state) governments?

“I’m just asking, not alleging,” he said, also urging the parties to reveal if they hold any trustee accounts.

This follows MACC’s investigations into Bersatu’s finances, which have resulted in the freezing of the party’s bank accounts.

On Wednesday, MACC chief Azam Baki confirmed that Bersatu’s accounts had been frozen as part of a probe into the alleged misappropriation of billions of ringgit meant for Covid-19 stimulus packages.

Yesterday, in denying that MACC had acted under his instruction, Anwar said PH and its component parties were prepared if MACC wanted to investigate their finances.

Anwar, who is also the PH chairman and PKR president, insisted that MACC acted independently in freezing Bersatu’s accounts under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (Amla).

  1. That is correct. The authorities should verify the origin of the funds in the evangelical Christian party and their apologists and gangs in the ruling coalition. There are too many shady dealings in the churches around the world, too many shadowy activities among the fake believers.
