WASHINGTON: China has not moved toward providing lethal aid that would help Russia in its invasion of Ukraine and the US has made clear behind closed doors that such a move would have serious consequences, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said today.

“Beijing will have to make its own decisions about how it proceeds, whether it provides military assistance, but if it goes down that road, it will come at real costs to China,” Sullivan said in an interview with CNN’s “State of the Union” programme.

China has not moved forward in providing that aid, but neither has Beijing taken that option off the table, Sullivan said in a separate interview on ABC’s “This Week” programme.

US officials have warned their Chinese counterparts behind closed doors about what those costs might be, Sullivan said, but he would not elaborate on those private discussions.

The US and its Nato allies have been scrambling to warn China against such a move in recent days, making public comments on their belief that China is considering providing lethal equipment to Russia.

CIA director William Burns also weighed in regarding China today.

“We’re confident that the Chinese leadership is considering the provision of lethal equipment. We also don’t see that a final decision has been made yet, and we don’t see evidence of actual shipments of lethal equipment,” Burns told the CBS programme “Face the Nation.”

Republican representative Michael McCaul, chairman of the House of Representatives foreign affairs committee, said on “This Week” that the US intelligence shows drones are among the lethal weapons China has considered sending to Russia.

US president Joe Biden visited Kyiv and met with President Volodymyr Zelensky last Monday, promising new military aid for Ukraine worth US$500 million. Last week marked the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion. The US has been by far the largest supplier of military assistance to help Ukraine repel better-equipped Russian forces. Ukraine expects a major new Russian offensive soon.

  1. China has to decide if it wants/can afford to lose the Yankee & Eu trade not forgetting so many other nations. Trump created the precedent.
Malaysia & Singapore gained the last time around. While the gajah lawan, the kanchipuram can become big game hunters. India just waiting for the sanctions.

  3. Wakakakaka…

"come at real costs" - politikus farts of inconsequential.

    To whom?

The multiple levels of threats, economic & politics, imposed upon Russia have proven that this is a double edged sword - aka senjata makan tuan!

In assisting Yankee to impose sanctions, EU's economy is in a state of destitution. Japan/SKorea ain't in better shape. Even the US forced bootstrapping economic performances r superficially a Pyrrhic victory - except those war weaponry merchants.

Meanwhile the agitated bear is just suffering outward bloody scratches with Putin rising in popularity.

Who can sustain the prolonged threats/wars?

Who's citizen r now gathering massively on the streets to protest this 'unjust' war?

  4. Western countries have provided military aid to Ukraine to defend its sovereign territory. Strictly defensive purposes, not a single inch of Russian cities and territory has been attacked.

For China to provide military aid to Russia would be aiding Russia's invasion and annexation of Ukrainian territory. If that happens , there certainly should be nasty consequences to China.

Western intelligence have intercepted communications clearly indicating supply negotiations between Russian government bureaus and China drone manufacturers, as well as China government discussions on providing Soviet-standard artillery munitions, which are also PLA standard.

    1. What a fart of inconsequential AGAIN!

Now u r farting about fightings at whose territories.

Imagine a hypothetical scenario - that NATO expands eastward & for some 'specific' (most likely manufactured by Yank) reasons encroaching into Russia sovereign territory. & war starts.

(There r many Russian territories under the old SU format that r currently shimmering under the surface for chaotic exploitations. All they need r sparks started by agitators.)

When that situation starts fighting is inevitable. Under NATO chapter 4 dogma, all member states of NATO would have to involve to fight Russia in Russian territory.

So using yr f*cked logic, what now?

For NATO member states to provide military aids to its war confronting member would be aiding that state's invasion & possible annexation of Russian territory.

If that happens , there certainly should be nasty consequences to NATO/US. No?

There lies Putin's word of nuclear threat - what's earth if Russia is no more!

This is a very real possible outcome of Yankee Doodles' plan in weakening Russia & eventually breaking it into multiple Yankee vassal states that uncle Sam can controlled likening Japan/SKorea/Ukraine.

The Russians wouldn't allow that to happen. Neither would Putin. The untold consequential pains & sufferings of the breaking of SU have casted a long & dark shadow over all patriotic Russians. Never shall that be happened AGAIN. Thus, the rising popularity of Putin amongst majority of the Russians!

China saw, sees & knows VERY WELL about that Yankee gameplay. Thus, when the right time comes, military aiding Russian would be a given.
Otherwise, China would definitely facing the same & expected fate of defeated Russia in the Ukraine conflict!

Mfer, remember world order? This time round definitely not as defined in yr uncle Sam's dictionary!

The Yank SHOULD prepare to face that consequences when the time comes. & the world at large, besides those Yankee doggies, would join the right side for a new & just world order.

  5. Not for nothing Putin labelled the US as an Empire of Lies ! The US propensity for gaslighting is absurdly astounding. What evidence is there that China will or might be arming Russia ? It all comes out from their fervid asshole imagination, just to demonize China.

China, unlike the rapacious West, rise up from the ashes to be the second largest economy ( soon to be the largest overtaking the US ) without wars, looting and pillaging, killings, slavery or stealing of resources. And it is this peaceful rise that give lie to the slander by the US that China would be like them, giving weapons to their proxies to prolong wars. Till today, the US was not taken to task for starting a war on fake premise of WMB. And the useless UN refused to investigate the US for the terrorist act of blowing up the pipeline. Yankistan is truly a Pariah shithole country on planet earth.
