GEORGE TOWN: DAP national vice-chairman Chow Kon Yeow is disappointed that not even one of the seven DAP MPs in Penang was given a full ministership.

He said MPs from parties which had won fewer parliamentary seats in the 15th general election had been made ministers.

“From our initial view, this (Cabinet line-up) is not a balanced distribution. We accept that there are four DAP ministers, but the number is fewer when compared to other parties.

“We are disappointed. However, we understand that this is a unity government and that the prime minister has the power to appoint who he wants,” the Penang DAP chief told reporters in Batu Kawan.

Within Pakatan Harapan, DAP won 40 seats, while PKR won 31, Amanah eight and Upko two. Muda, which entered into an electoral pact with PH, won one seat.

Anwar’s Cabinet includes eight PKR ministers (including Anwar as PM), four from DAP, two from Amanah and one from Upko.

Other members are six Barisan Nasional MPs through Umno; five from Gabungan Parti Sarawak through PBB, PRS and PDP; and one from Gabungan Rakyat Sabah through Sabah Bersatu.

Na’im Mokhtar, who holds the religious affairs portfolio, is not a member of any party.

  1. One of the fundamental causes of PH 1 downfall was the successful campaign to label PH as controlled by DAP.
So , no choice , DAP needs to take a back seat in this Government.

PKR's Chinese MPs got 1 Minister, and No PKR Indian Minister, even though the solid support from the Nons clearly contributed to PKR wins, including in Malay-majority areas.
