Zahid told Istana that BN backing Anwar, says Vigneswaran

MIC president SA Vigneswaran, however, declined to comment on reports that a letter sent by Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had caused tensions to rise at the BN Supreme Council and that there were attempts for the BN chairman to be sacked.

PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi did send Istana Negara a letter stating that all 30 BN MPs were backing Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister, says MIC president SA Vigneswaran.

According to Malaysiakini, Vigneswaran said Zahid “admitted” to sending the letter to the palace after 10 BN MPs withdrew their support for Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin, and after BN decided to remain in the opposition.

The online portal also reported that only 28 of the 30 BN MPs had signed “akujanji” pledges before the general election to give Zahid the mandate to hold discussions with any party on forming the government.

Malaysiakini also reported that BN deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan and treasurer-general Hishammuddin Hussein did not sign the pledge.

Vigneswaran declined to comment on reports that the letter sent by Zahid had caused tensions to rise at the BN Supreme Council and that there were attempts for the BN chairman to be sacked.

Yesterday, Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob said BN had decided not to form the government with PN or Pakatan Harapan (PH) and would remain in the opposition.

This followed talks between BN and PH leaders on forming the government.

Hishammuddin had repeatedly stated that he would not cooperate with PH to form the government, adding that he was willing to be sacked by Umno for his stand.

Earlier today, Zahid revealed that the King had decreed that BN must be part of a unity government. This was when Mohamad, BN secretary-general Zambry Abd Kadir and Zahid met the King at Istana Negara this morning.

MCA man reveals proposal to replace Zahid as BN chief

PETALING JAYA: Last night’s Barisan Nasional meeting saw a proposal for Mohamad Hasan to replace Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as BN chairman, revealed MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon.

Commenting on viral photos of a letter Zahid sent to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, stating that all 30 BN MPs were backing Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister, Chong said the claims in the letter are “completely out of line” with the BN Supreme Council’s two meetings held yesterday.

“In both meetings, the BN Supreme Council had resolved that BN will not support anyone as the Prime Minister at this moment,” said Chong in a statement.

“MCA believes that Zahid is no longer fit to continue leading BN, and we call for his resignation from his position as BN chairman (and) to be replaced by (BN deputy chairman) Mohamad Hasan as proposed during the BN Supreme Council meeting last night.”

  1. That is the problem with Malaysian politics.

Too many people open their mouths thinking they are dishing out words of wisdom. I guess they need to feel important and relevant.

There should only be 1 appointed spokesman to avoid confusion and speculation.
