PETALING JAYA: An Umno Youth leader has commended DAP duo Loke Siew Fook and Lim Guan Eng for apologising to Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Sarawakians for past comments that may have offended them.

Wan Agyl Wan Hassan said it was time for Malaysians to put their differences aside and focus on national interests.

“We need to be more mature in politics, and the apologies are an example of this, and an opportunity for us to move forward as a nation.

“I hope the spirit of the apologies will be reflected in the actions of other party leaders and supporters. The same applies to us and other political party leaders and members as well,” the federal territories Umno Youth information chief told FMT.

Wan Agyl said Malaysia needed to move on from the “old, divisive politics”.

“We need to be mature, admit when we are wrong and move forward,” he said.

In separate statements earlier today, DAP chairman Lim and party secretary-general Loke apologised for past remarks that may have offended GPS and Sarawakians.

They said the country’s future was more important and emphasised the need for cooperation across the political divide.

DAP and GPS have been at odds over the years, with Lim drawing flak in 2019 when he was finance minister. He had claimed that Sarawak would go bankrupt in three years if GPS continued to govern the state.
