PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook says he has made an open apology to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders during a meeting with them this morning.

In a statement, Loke said he met GPS chairman Abang Johari Openg and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Dr Sim Kui Hian, where they held a “friendly” discussion.

“I had informed the Sarawak premier that if there were any statements made by DAP leaders previously that offended the Sarawak government and people, I, representing DAP, apologise openly,” he said.

Loke said he hoped this morning’s meeting with the two GPS leaders would open a new page for Malaysia’s political landscape, towards building greater understanding and cooperation for the nation’s sake.

Despite initially stating its support for Muhyiddin Yassin as the prime minister, GPS seemed to have changed its stand after Barisan Nasional said it would remain in the opposition instead of forming the government with Pakatan Harapan or Perikatan Nasional.

The Sarawak coalition had said it would let the King decide what was best for the people.

However, after meeting the King yesterday, GPS leader Fadillah Yusof revealed that the coalition was asked if it would be part of a unity government to resolve the political impasse.
