PAS may change stand on not calling for simultaneous state polls with GE15

PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad said the matter needs further consideration following the decision of the Umno Supreme Council that GE15 should be held this year.

BACHOK: PAS is considering reviewing its earlier decision not to dissolve the state assemblies of the three states it rules simultaneously if Parliament is dissolved early, said its vice-president Idris Ahmad.

Idris said the top leadership will meet soon to discuss if Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah should call for elections together with the next general election (GE15) if it is called this year.

“As of now, our stand is not to dissolve these state assemblies if GE15 is called this year but we may change this decision.

“This was prompted by the decision of the Umno Supreme Council last week that GE15 should be held this year.

“The party leadership will meet soon to make a decision on this,” Bernama reported him as saying after an event here last night.

Previously, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan had announced that the three PAS-held states would not be dissolving their legislative assemblies before March next year.

On Friday, Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said the party’s Supreme Council had agreed that Parliament should be dissolved soon, for elections to be held this year.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is one of the party’s vice-presidents, has been given the discretion to propose a date to the King for the dissolution of Parliament.
