Combating corruption under cronyist Dr Mahathir? Forget it: Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR – It was impossible for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration to fully implement reforms as the government was led by “non-reformer” Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Anwar said Dr Mahathir does not believe in reform, instead in “cronyism and some form of corruption”.

During Dr Mahathir’s tenure as the seventh prime minister, Anwar said his former coalition boss returned to racial politics which opposes PH’s multi-racial agenda.

“We did undertake some reform measures in terms of judicial independence and anti-corruption, but it was half-hearted, because the leader of this so-called reform government was not a reformer,” he said at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand in Bangkok.

“He does not believe in reform.”

Anwar alleged that the Langkawi MP went back to strong racial overtones such as attending a Malay congress that harped on race supremacy.

PH chairman Anwar also expressed confidence that the coalition has a fair chance of reclaiming Putrajaya come the next general election.

“I remain optimistic, because there is a huge battle between the members of the ruling coalition – former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the major partner of the Umno-led coalition headed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.”

all billionaires - they should teach Malays their business skills

Mahathir dismissed the idea of a need-based policy that would address poverty across the country’s population’ whether Malays, Chinese or Indians.

And his justification against a need-based policy makes no sense at all. In fact, one could not be faulted if they come to a conclusion that Mahathir still thinks the Chinese and Indians are foreigners.

It is clear that Mahathir’s justification for a need-based policy is premised on racial ground; that the Malays being the indigenous people, conveniently forgetting the Orang Asli community, need special attention.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad's remarks on how the Malays were forced to accept orang asing (foreigners) during British rule in exchange for independence is downright insulting and unbecoming of a prime minister who represents all Malaysians, said DAP lawmaker Ramkarpal Singh.

Ramkarpal was referring to the prime minister's speech at the Malay Dignity Congress, where Mahathir said:

“... Orang asing berasa selesa dengan negara kita dan mereka ingin tinggal di sini. Nak tak nak pun, kita terpaksa terima, kalau tidak kita tidak akan mencapai kemerdekaan.”

(Translation of above: The foreigners felt comfortable in this country and wanted to stay. Like it or not, we were forced to accept or we would not have achieved independence)

Mahathir's "orang asing" or "foreigners" refer to non-Malay Malaysian citizens (to wit, Chinese and Indian Malaysians)

How in the world did DAP ever support such an anti-Chinese anti-Indian racist?

Comment: does this mean Anwar has woken up and realised the old buffoon can NEVER be trusted?

    2) How in the world did DAP ever support such an anti-Chinese anti-Indian racist?

Comment: because father and son were very desperate for son to be in government. But even being appointed Finance Minister, LGE had part of his p***k "sunatted". Reminds me of eunuchs of Chinese history.

  3. a more pertinent question kt should be asking is how in the world did the voters in ge14 supported the racist thief and made him pm for a second time, could it be because the voters wanted the national embarrassment to face justice? how mca, mic gerakan perpetuated and facilitated the racist thief for 22 years escaped his scrutiny, but the dap collaborated with the racist thief for a mere 22 months and made history, gone, the national embarrassment wakakaka , the end justifies the means
