Former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's threats to dissolve UMNO were the reason for the criminal charges that were brought against him.

When Ahmad Zahid was being cross-examined by his attorney, Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Zainal, about allegations of breach of trust, corruption, and money laundering involving funds from the Akalbudi Foundation, he stated, "If I don't do that, something will be done against me.

Explaining the matter, Ahmad Zahid said the threats received from Dr Mahathir were not specific about matters related to the Akalbudi Foundation but rather related to the position he held in the party, that is when carrying out his duties as UMNO President.

Dr Mahathir who at that time started to meet him, threatened that he (Ahmad Zahid) dissolved UMNO or something would be done against him.

According to him, Dr. Mahathir once made a confession which was later published in several media that he once asked him to dissolve UMNO and jump the party.

However, when asked about Ahmad Zahid’s allegations towards him, Dr. Mahathir denied it immediately.

Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad requested that Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the president of the UMNO, provides proof in support of the former Prime Minister's assertion that UMNO needs to be dissolved.

He claimed that Zahid frequently made a variety of accusations but was unable to back any of them up with facts.

Ahmad Zahid is defending himself against 47 allegations, including 12 counts of trust-breaching, 8 counts of bribery, and 27 counts of money-laundering involving millions of ringgit in Akalbudi Foundation monies.

Ahmad Zahid is charged of transferring money from Yayasan Akalbudi to pay for six private purchases, including payments for credit cards, insurance, and private vehicle licences, as well as payments to a law company and donations to the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) football club.

The offence in violation of Penal Code Section 409 is said to have occurred between January 13, 2014, and January 11, 2016.

Ahmad Zahid is accused of accepting bribes from three businesses: Mastoro Kenny IT Consultant & Services, Data Sonic Group Berhad, and Profound Radiance Sdn. Bhd. for the eight charges of corruption.

  1. Zahid should know that having a conversation with the old buffoon can be a tricky thing. He should know that the old fool can always deny any accusation so long as there is no hard evidence.

Zahid should have tape recorded his conversation with the old man.
(Even then, it will be accused of being doctored! Sigh!)

Now, it is a "he said, she said" kind of thing. And that, I believe is called hearsay and is not valid in court.

  2. Mahathir the politician applying pressure for UMNO to be dissolved was objectionable and unethical , but not illegal.
If Mahathir threatened criminal prosecution if he did not get his away , that would be illegal....so please provide the evidence, if it so exists...

Nevertheless, Zahid's guilt or innocence stands or falls on its own merits, just like Najib's case.

Crying Ah Chee Ah Chor alleging selective prosecution or bias with the judge won't get Zahid anywhere unless he can show the evidence.
