Netizens took to social media over the incident, posting pictures and videos of the murky waters reaching knee-deep in some areas and alerting others to be careful on the road.

PETALING JAYA: Johor Bahru has been hit by flash floods following heavy rain, leaving several cars damaged and stranded this afternoon.

Netizens posted pictures and videos on social media showing the murky waters reaching knee-deep in some areas and alerting others to be careful on the road.

Some even said that Johor was becoming like Kuala Lumpur, with torrential rain quickly leading to flash floods in the city.

The state’s Sultanah Aminah Hospital was also said to be affected by the flash floods, with several cars parked in its compound said to be damaged in the incident.

Twitter user @nadeenuts said some cars parked in the hospital’s compound had to be towed away.

She also posted a picture of nurses having to rearrange chairs after flood waters entered one of the hospital’s waiting areas, apparently due to an overflowing drain.

Harian Metro reported that the flash floods had caused traffic jams in the hospital’s surrounding area, forcing cars to travel slowly through Jalan Wong Ah Fook, Jalan Yahya Awal and Jalan Ayer Molek.

The daily also reported that the floods had made it difficult for patients and visitors at the hospital since it had been raining since noon.

It reported that floodwaters had reached waist-level at Kampung Muhamad Amin at Nong Chik, while other parts of the city were also experiencing the flash floods.

A spokesman for the civil defence force (APM) confirmed that several areas in Johor were hit by flash floods.

Didn't some officials or minister said just a few days ago the "new" anti-flood system is now ready, alert alarms and all?
