Coalition’s elections director says he will prepare document with Umno president after touring country

TASEK GELUGOR – Barisan Nasional (BN) will be sending a report on the best time to hold the general election to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob this August, revealed Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
The ruling coalition’s elections director said that he will prepare the report with Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi after he has completed his working visit to all states in Malaysia.
“I haven’t finished touring yet. Wait for me to go around the country with my friends, and we will prepare a work report to send to the PM.
“We will finish (the presentation of the election report) before mid-August,” he said at a press conference after the launch of the Penang BN machinery today.
The Umno deputy president also revealed that Ismail Sabri is also studying and waiting for the right time to hold the 15th general election.
Mohamad is currently on a tour to meet party leaders in each state to prepare for the upcoming polls.
On a separate matter, the Umno veteran refused to elaborate further when asked if Penang will have its first Malay chief minister candidate to replace former coalition partner Gerakan, which had once dominated the state prior to its overwhelming defeat at the hands of DAP in 2008.
The former Negri Sembilan menteri besar said that the matter has not yet been decided upon by the party and BN’s main focus is to face DAP in the next general election.
“We will decide between the parties in BN later. That’s why we said earlier, we haven’t talked about seats and candidates.
“This will all be decided at the leadership level of the respective parties later.
“So, the main thing is, let’s not talk about the candidate or who is the chief minister candidate. The important thing is that we first put together a plan of action to deal with DAP,” he said.
In June 2018 – a month after the 14th general election – Gerakan announced its exit from BN to become a constructive independent party.
However, in February last year, the party announced it was joining the Perikatan Nasional coalition, which contains Bersatu and PAS. – The Vibes, July 24, 2022
