Accept party election results with open heart, says Anwar
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said the results were meant to rebuild the strength of the party.
PORT DICKSON: All candidates contesting in the 2022 PKR elections have been told to accept the results to be announced tomorrow with an open heart.
PKR president and opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said the results were meant to rebuild the strength of the party.
“Yes, it will be announced tomorrow. All results are in. We (PKR) will harness our strength together after that,” he told reporters after attending an Aidilfitri celebration here today.
PKR central election committee chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa said earlier that the PKR election results at the national and branch levels would be announced tomorrow, after being postponed as fresh elections had to be called in several divisions.
Anwar, who is also chairman of Pakatan Harapan, again urged Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to expedite holding a special session of Parliament to debate the proposed Anti-Party Hopping Bill.
Some squabbles at divisional elections
Fresh voting at six divisions in four states ran smoothly today although things got slightly heated in Kedah.
The six divisions involved were Dungun, Marang and Kemaman in Terengganu; Hulu Selangor (Selangor); Padang Serai (Kedah) and Pensiangan (Sabah).
The voting process in Hulu Selangor was completed at 5.15pm without any provocation or disputes. Election committee coordinator Mazli Saring said 1,937 party members began voting from 9.15am.
The Hulu Selangor elections were disrupted on May 21 for a lack of facilities such as tables and chairs.
Voting in Kemaman, Dungun and Marang, Terengganu, also went smoothly. The elections in Marang were only for key central-level positions.
There were some squabbles outside the Padang Serai division polling station at Dewan Sri Karumariamman Paya Besar, in Lunas, Kedah.
Kedah election coordinator Rashid Din said there were arguments outside the polling centre, but the situation was brought under control and the voting process went ahead smoothly.
The PKR elections will proceed now with online nominations for the 20 positions of the central leadership council, youth leadership council and the women’s leadership council from tomorrow until May 31.
