Were you sleeping at assembly sitting, Puad asks ex-MB
Puad Zarkashi (left) says Hasni Mohammad should check the state assembly’s Hansard before criticising him.
PETALING JAYA: New Johor state assembly speaker Puad Zarkashi has slammed former menteri besar Hasni Mohammad after being on the receiving end of criticism over comments made at the assembly.
In a strongly-worded statement on Facebook today, the Umno Supreme Council member also asked the state party chief if he was asleep during the proceedings following the opening of the state assembly on Thursday.
In his speech after being sworn in on Thursday, Puad had reminded the state assemblymen of the advice by Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar to keep the interest of the people at heart and to not defile the assembly with a bad attitude as it was not a “sangkar beruk” (“cage for apes”).
Taking to Twitter yesterday, Hasni criticised Puad for his comments in the assembly, saying it was not befitting his position as the speaker.
He added that Puad should not be resorting to “derogatory” sentiments.
Today, Puad rebuked Hasni over his tweet, urging him to check the state assembly’s Hansard before commenting.
“Hasni has accused me of insulting the state assembly. What exactly was the insult? He was there, he heard what I said.
“Was he asleep during the assembly sitting?” Puad said, questioning Hasni for citing a news portal on the reminder he gave based on the sultan’s advice.
Puad said he simply urged the assemblymen to carry out their responsibilities properly as nation builders and look after the welfare of Johor and its people.
He added that there was nothing derogatory or insulting in his speech.
