'Unhappy grassroots' unlikely to help Muda, says Fuziah

'Unhappy grassroots' unlikely to help Muda, says Fuziah

JOHOR POLLS | PKR grassroots unhappy with Muda's decision to contest in Larkin against its own candidate, Dr Zamil Najwah Arbain, is unlikely to lend support for the party in its other six seats.

PKR elections director Fuziah Salleh said the party's grassroots were largely left upset with Muda's surprise announcement that it would field the party's information chief Rasid Abu Bakar in Larkin, after the failure of initial negotiations.

"We will not assist Muda as a sign of our protest, but at the end of the day it is up to our grassroots members," said Fuziah when met in PKR Pasir Raja's operation centre where she appeared alongside the party's candidate Mohd Fakharuddin Moslim.

"When Muda made a decision to 'clash' in Larkin, they didn't show the spirit of cooperation.

"But PKR is a matured party and we are thinking beyond Muda, we're thinking for the people," said Fuziah.

"So we may be upset but a decision was made to not retaliate against Muda because most importantly it's about the people," she added.

Through negotiations, Muda has been allocated six seats - four from Amanah and two from DAP - while the party's request for three seats from PKR had failed.

Johor PKR chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh yesterday said PKR has decided not to retaliate against Muda out of respect for DAP and Amanah's agreement, despite calls from its grassroots to field a candidate in Puteri Wangsa.

Subsequently, Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said its machinery will be supporting its Harapan coalition partner in any clashing seats not initially allocated to Muda.

Khalid, however, urged all Harapan components including PKR to support Muda's candidates in four seats originally allocated to Amanah.

'Physical forms received'

Meanwhile, Fuziah also received 30 PKR membership forms from Rosnah Suliman, a former Bersatu member.

She said while PKR has temporarily stopped updating its membership roll ahead of party elections scheduled to be held in April, the physical forms will still be accepted.

Also present was PKR Tenggara division chief Shamsuri Shahdan.
