Umno’s Tok Mat says appropriate for GE15 to be held in near future

SEREMBAN, Nov 21 — Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan feels it is only appropriate that the 15th General Election (GE15) be held in the near future so as to get a fresh mandate from the people.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman also said that such a move would provide the best chance for BN based on the people’s current sentiments towards the coalition.
He added that he had conveyed the message to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob after BN won the Melaka state election yesterday.
“I spoke with the Prime Minister yesterday that we need to consider expediting GE15. Like it or not, we have to wait until next July because the agreement (memorandum of understanding between the government and opposition) is until then.
“Even this we do not know because many lost badly in Melaka it’s unsure whether they will withdraw because anything can happen in politics. The dynamics change every day and are not static. As such, it’s up to BN and Umno to conduct a review,” he said.
He told reporters this after the official opening of the annual general meeting of Persatuan Solidariti Nasional (PerSoNa) here today.

Lim said the Malacca polls result could tempt Umno's leadership to hold snap polls ahead of a June 22 mark as agreed under the memorandum of understanding between Harapan and the government.
He said this was as BN aspired to return as a single coalition federal government, based on the Malacca poll results.
Warning that it could prove to be a fatal mistake, Lim said the 12 seats won by BN with under 1,000 votes majority was prove that their victory was not a foregone conclusion, but rather dependent on factors including voters turnout.

REMBAU, Nov 21 — It is too early for Barisan Nasional (BN) to decide on going solo in the next General Election (GE), says Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin.
He said although the party won the Melaka State Election, BN needed to do an in-depth study on the statistics, especially in terms of the 65 per cent of voters who went to the polls yesterday, before making any such move.
“The question is whether this (landslide victory in Melaka) means BN will be able to go solo in the next GE. I think the party has proven something, that BN still has strength at the grassroots level.
“But we have to accept the fact that the Melaka polls saw only 65 per cent who went to the polls and 35 per cent did not go. In any decision that will be made, we have to think about whether Melaka is an accurate representation of the (next) GE or not,” he told reporters after the handing over of assets at the Rembau District Health Office here.
Meanwhile, Khairy congratulated the BN party machinery led by UMNO Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan as well as State UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali, for winning 21 state assembly seats in the polls yesterday.
“Overall, the compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP) — although there were some other cases, it was acceptable or moderate. So far, all parties have managed to adapt to the new campaigning style, this is a model for the Sarawak State Election later, “he said. — Bernama

PM Ismail Sabri is in the same awkward position as KJ, enjoying an exalted ministerial status (as PM9) he wouldn't have occupied if UMNO were still in power after GE14, thus I am doubtful he will call for an early GE15, wakakaka.
