PH lost in Melaka because of ‘same old script’, says ex-deputy minister
Former deputy minister Loga Bala Mohan says Pakatan Harapan leaders were saying the same things in Melaka as they did before GE14.
PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan’s poor performance in Melaka is down to its failure to offer voters anything new and its continued reliance on “the same old script” against its opponents, says a former deputy minister.
Loga Bala Mohan, of myPPP, a former Barisan Nasional component, said the opposition should play its role more effectively in showing how they can do better than those in power.
“In the run-up to the Melaka elections, we heard the opposition, PH and even (former prime minister) Dr Mahathir Mohamad saying the same things they did prior to GE14.
“They were attacking Najib (Razak), Barisan Nasional and Umno, calling them all sorts of names. How does that show the people you can make their lives better?” the myPPP senior vice-president said in commenting on the recent elections.
Last week, BN won 21 of the 28 seats up for grabs in Melaka. PH only managed to win five while Perikatan Nasional won two. In GE14, PH won the state with 15 seats.
Loga said PH should have used the Melaka elections as an opportunity to address criticisms it faced during its 22 months in power, and explain to voters what it had learned from its experience and how it will do better.
“But what did they do? For all their criticisms of those who triggered the fall of the PH government in the Sheraton Move, calling people ‘traitors’ and ‘kataks’ (frogs), they took in two Umno defectors.”
He also said the opposition should be more humble and give their opponents credit where it was due, including to Najib.
“Many appreciate Najib’s contributions and policies, like the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) project. This featured heavily in the Melaka elections.
“Last time, when PH came to power, they postponed the project but just last month, (former finance minister) Lim Guan Eng urged the government to revive it. So people lose hope when they see the opposition changing their tune.”
He said he hoped PH would work towards being a more mature, objective and effective opposition.
“They had the opportunity to show they can do better, not just at the federal level but in Melaka. Don’t just oppose (the government) for the sake of doing so. If something the government does is good, support it, if it is not, explain why,” he said.

C'mon, DAP did support the government in its MOU. In fact one DAP bloke did twice at that.
Initially when then-PM Muhyiddin offered the MOU, he was shouted down by the Opposition save one person, YB Tony Pua.
TP was damn mad the Opposition rejected Muhyiddin's offer without realising the MOU, if signed, would have prevented Najib (the bête noire of TP, Atuk and KHAT's 😂😂😂) from pressuring Muhyiddin's government because of its very slim majority.
Subsequently when the Opposition signed a MOU with the following PM, Ismail Sabri, he (Tony Pua) was rapt with sheer bliss and Ecstasy because that would then prevent Najib from pressuring the new PM.
TP is a very smart politician, well, at least smarter than his supporters who idolised him for having the BIGGEST majority in the history of Malaysian politics, BUT stupidly without realising TP's constituency Damansara was sardine-sed (gerrymandered by the EC) into that situation where the number of voters easily equals that for two federal constituencies, in other words 'depriving' the DAP of another MP.
It was just another (old) Klang gerrymandering which previously had over 105,000 voters whilst Putrajaya previously had only less than 20,000 - making a vote in Putrajaya worth 5 times that of the 'nons' in Klang (or now, Damansara).
And that explains why I believe TP is smart, well at least smarter than his dumbo supporters, wakakaka.

PUTRAJAYA: Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has been given 24 hours to explain his political secretary Tony Pua’s statement on talks to be held between the government and Grab on feeder services to the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations.
Big Blue Taxi Facilities Sdn Bhd (Big Blue Taxi) adviser Datuk Shamsubahrin Ismail, the spokesman for the Taxi Drivers Association, also questioned why such a policy statement was issued by Pua and not the minister himself.
“We want to know why only Grab is being chosen and not the 45 Malaysian taxi companies combined?
“If the government only allows Grab, what will happen to the taxi-metered drivers that queue from morning to night at all MRT and LRT (stations),” he said after handing a protest memorandum regarding the matter to the Finance Ministry today.
Shamsubahrin said it was baffling that a policy decision involving the livelihood of taxi drivers was being handled by Tony Pua instead of the minister.
“We give the finance minister 24 hours to meet us. We want to resolve this issue,” he said.
The memorandum was handed to the Treasury’s Corporate and Communication Strategy Division secretary Suhaili Ahmad.
About 200 taxi drivers have gathered in front of the Finance Ministry to protest over the government’s plan to hold talks with e-hailing company Grab to provide complementary transport services to MRT users.
Shamsubahrin warned should the meeting fail to happen before the 24 hours deadline, taxi drivers would hold demonstrations nationwide.
“We had high hopes that things will change for the better for taxi drivers after the 14th general election (GE14). But, it seems that it is worse than before,” he said.
Shamsubahrin was reported to have said last week that the government’s decision to hold talks with Grab was unfair as it showed that the government failed to consider other stakeholders.

KUALA LUMPUR: Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook says the government has no plans to scrap the feeder bus service and replace it with Grab.
Amid continued backlash over the issue, Loke said it was “just a proposal” made by Tony Pua, the finance minister’s political secretary.
“As far as the transport ministry is concerned, we have no plans to scrap the feeder bus service right now,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.
“We want to integrate with other bus services and we hope we can roll out the monthly pass soon, then all these services will be part and parcel of the public transportation system in the Klang Valley.”
He was commenting on reports in which Pua said Putrajaya was considering pursuing public-private partnerships in areas such as public transport.

ReplyDeleteAs for the Last-Mile connection between people's homes and the nearest LRT/ MRT station, until today , whichever government of any stripe has still not solved it.
Feeder buses are not a sufficient solution, because many people have to walk considerable distance to / from their home to the nearest feeder bus stop. Definitely a problem for the elderly, disabled, when it is raining heavily or for women after sundown or before sunrise.
At least TP was thinking of a constructive solution, the others just knew how to Hentam, Hentam. Until today, no solution , just Hentam, Hentam.
