“Weed out candidates with ‘frog tendencies' from Melaka state election"
PAKATAN Harapan (PH), which stands a good chance to govern Melaka once again, must ensure that proper personality checks are done on candidates contesting under the coalition’s banner.
Given that candidates with “frog tendencies” have tainted the trust of the electorate in the aftermath of the 14th General Election (14GE), PH components parties comprising DAP, PKR and Amanah must ensure stringent background check is made on each and every of their candidates.
“This (PH losing power in Melaka) happened because of the betrayal of some self-interested ‘frog’ politicians who are only interested in position and power despite the mandate given by the people,” Malaysian Indian Voice (MIV) chairman Pappa Raidu Veraman told FocusM.
It is believed that the Melaka state election may allow PH to focus its efforts on helping the rakyat by relooking certain policies and eliminating some of the struggles that the people have been fighting for.

The Melaka state election is being held following the dissolution of its state assembly after four Government lawmakers announced their loss of confidence in the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.
The Election Commission has set Nov 20 as the polling day for the Melaka state election, while the nomination day is Nov 8 and early voting is on Nov 16.
PKR is eyeing to contest 12 seats in the upcoming Malacca snap polls, four more than it did during the 2018 general election, according to its state chief Halim Bachik.
“We will contest (all) eight state constituencies we did in the 14th general election. We (aim to) add additional four more seats from the six seats contested by Bersatu in 2018,” he told Malaysiakini.
Halim added that the party aims to win eight out of the 12 seats. Recall that six seats were contested by Bersatu which was then a PH ally in 2018, namely Ayer Limau, Lendu, Asahan, Paya Rumput, Telok Mas and Sungai Rambai.
Pappa Raidu also urged PH to take a similar measure in the wake of the 15GE. He expects PH’s firm stance with regard to the quality of its candidates will enable the coalition to regain the people’s confidence and ultimately “win back Putrajaya”.
“If PH allows these ‘frogs’ to again contest under the PH ticket, then PH will be in very bad shape from the electorate’s perception,” he reckoned.
“Even if the ‘frogs’ stand good chance of winning the GE15, the victory does not belong to PH because they will be too demanding once they are in the position of power to form the Government.
“PH leaders must learn from their past blunders by not allowing the same mistake to happen again and again. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me is a very suitable proverb for this situation.” – Oct 20, 2021
