No provable element of corruption in Rina's case - PM
The MACC has cleared Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rina Harun of any suspicion over her source of wealth in which she managed to settle huge debts to avoid being declared bankrupt.
"The investigation into this case has been completed. The investigation found no proof of any element of corruption," said Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a parliamentary reply today.
He was responding to Hannah Yeoh (Harapan-Segambut) who asked him about the status of the investigation related to the settlement of debt involving the minister.
While the parliamentary reply did not name the minister, Yeoh on social media mentioned she was referring to Rina (above) in her question.
Yeoh also uploaded the written reply on Twitter.
Rina came under the spotlight in February after she settled her debts to Paris-based film company Sarl Novovision of around RM1.3 million to avoid being declared bankrupt.
A lawyer representing Sarl Novovision was reported to have said the minister had settled her debts in February.
She was served a bankruptcy notice for debts owed to Sarl Novovision to the tune of RM1,340,642.02 as of Nov 17, 2020. The French firm filed a suit against Rina on Nov 8, 2018, demanding that the full amount be paid by July 31, 2019.
Rina, who was one of the directors of now-defunct companies Eurofine (M) Sdn Bhd, Fine Mobile Network Sdn Bhd and Fine TV Network Sdn Bhd, had purchased several comedy shows and documentaries from the French company.
In May 2014, Rina and another company director, Ida Rahayu Md Noor, had entered into a guarantee agreement with Sarl Novovision that they would personally and jointly undertake all liabilities of the companies.
However, the companies were closed down between December 2013 and August 2015, respectively.
DAP's Canning assemblyperson Jenny Choy had publicly asked Rina how she managed to accumulate the settlement amount in a short period of 15 months as Rina's assets declaration data showed her assets at RM72,000 when the data was made public in November 2019.
Choy filed a report urging the MACC to probe the minister.

Why am I not surprised the MACC found no element of corruption in Rina's ability to make payment to settle the issue to avoid being declared a bankrupt.
