Selective humanity: All for Palestin but not Orang Asli, Aghans and Yemenis?
REBUKING the Government, human rights lawyer and activist Siti Kasim decried the double standards when it came to the dealing with the plight of Palestinians.
“In Malaysia, it’s about selective humanity. The plight of a Palestinian is greater than that of an Afghan or Yemeni.
“The killing of a Palestinian evokes more compassion than the gunning down of school girls in Afghanistan. A child having a simple meal in Palestine is more pitiful than a child in a state of famine in Yemen,” she said in a Facebook post.
Since last week, the conflict between Israel and Palestine escalated after the Zionist nation’s police stormed and assaulted congregation praying at the al-Aqsa Mosque during Ramadan.
Both sides started firing rockets and launched air strikes on each other’s land, causing hundreds to lose their lives and leaving many others injured.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had since vowed to take down Hamas leaders across the globe, using its intelligence service.
Last week, 85 girls were killed and 147 others were injured in a bomb blast in front of the Sayed Al-Shuhada school in Kabul.
Just two days ago, twelve were killed after a bomb exploded in a mosque at the Shiite majority area of Shakar Dara. US official believed the attack was masterminded by Islamic State.
The Yemeni conflict has been ongoing since 2014, after Saudi Arabia declared war on its present regime, triggering a massive humanitarian crisis. So far, the United Nations have estimated that more than 100,000 people have been killed in the war, with many children facing starvation.
On that note, Siti Kasim also questioned Malaysia’s priority in reaching out to the Palestinians for being displaced by Israelis, while the same thing is being perpetuated against the Orang Asli community in Malaysia.
“We are so concerned with the loss of a few homes in Sheikh Jarrah because the Palestinian homeowners are said to have lived there since 1948.
“But not our Orang Asli community who have been here since time immemorial and are having their land taken away.
“And the Red Cresent is seeking donation for Palestine. Yet, they have no intention to seek donation for the Yemenis,” she added. – May 17, 2021

It is good that some hard questions are asked of the powers that be.

The Yemenis, Orang Asli, and Afghans don't count.
