Human trafficking involving sex services of Vietnamese women

FMT:

2 men held for human trafficking involving 5 Vietnamese women

All the victims have applied for an Interim Protection Order and will be sent to a temporary protection centre.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested two local men suspected to be behind human trafficking activities involving five Vietnamese women at Jalan Raden Bagus here, yesterday.

Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department chief Saiful Annuar Yusoff, in a statement, said both men were believed to be the managers of all the victims, aged 26 to 34.

“An operation dubbed ‘Op Pintas’ conducted at around 10.10pm last night exposed the heinous activities believed to have been active since last month.

“Investigations also revealed that the victims were forced to provide sex services at the price of RM250 per customer,” he said, adding that police also found all the victims’ passports believed to be held by one of the suspects.

Saiful Annuar said the police would submit a remand order for both suspects for investigations under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants 2007.

“All victims have applied for an Interim Protection Order and will be sent to a temporary protection centre,” he said.

Nine mobile phones, three room access cards, 24 condoms and RM1,250 in cash were also seized in the raid.

kt notes:

Pimps and prostitution are common in most if not every country, and in some countries the latter, prostitution, is a legal activity/occupation (European/Australian/Yank countries named it 'sex work' and prostitutes 'sex workers').

BUT 'forced' sex services or sex slavery is not common and a crime I least expect in Malaysia. The description of 'heinous' regarding the crime is most appropriate. The culprits must be severely punished, though I believe there would be also a Vietnamese connection, perhaps not in Malaysia.

And I hope such wicked 'activities' have nothing to do with the “incredible sense of sexual desire” that the wife cannot fulfil for their lusty husbands.

  1. Sex-related commercial activities involve a spectrum from outright slavery to freely chosen participants.

Police who handle such crimes in Penang are quite familiar with the issues - Penang being a major international tourist destination before Covid-19.

True sex slavery, physically prevented from escape or under threat of severe violence, is not common in Malaysia.

However, there are many more who are theoretically not coerced, but are highly dependent on their "Pimp" or have few other economic options.

Then again, there are those who quite willingly participate in the "Profession" as it offers a wothwhile Cost vs Benefit trade-off.

The High-End operatives dress up and look like Business Executives, and drive nice cars, you wouldn't guess their office is a Bedroom , not a Boardroom.
