UMNO vows to recover seats "stolen" by Mahathir's previous party PPBM

Umno vows to win back all seats lost due to defections

Umno today vowed to reclaim all parliamentary and state seats lost due to its lawmakers defecting to Bersatu.

The pledge was made by Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan (photo, above) at the Umno Annual General Assembly 2020.

"All the seats where (our representatives) defected, for sure we will reclaim," he said when reading out the secretary-general's report.

Umno, which won 54 parliamentary seats in the 2018 general election, saw 16 MPs defecting to Bersatu.

The party's delegates are expected to debate and decide in the AGM about Umno's decision to sever ties with Bersatu.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, who had insisted that PAS would remain with Perikatan Nasional and Muafakat Nasional, is present at the AGM with this deputy, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Pointing his gun at Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's administration, Ahmad said the Perikatan Nasional government is the most unstable government in the world.

"For the first time, politics in this country is very unstable. This government is the most unstable in the whole world.

"The leadership has to count the support of the members of parliament almost daily for fear that they (the MPs) will withdraw their support," he joked.

Ahmad also announced that Umno's membership totalled 3.36 million and proudly declared that the Malay-based party remains the country's biggest political party.
