‘I am not strong like Guan Eng’ reply by PKR MPs irks DAP sec-gen

PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has rebuked PKR MPs who said they were not as resilient as him in the face of threats to themselves and their families, after attempts were allegedly made to get them to support Perikatan Nasional (PN).
The Bagan MP revealed that when opposition leader and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim told his MPs who had been induced to defect to stand firm, two of them replied: “I am not strong like Guan Eng.”
He said it was wrong of them to say this as it could also imply that they were not strong like him in willing to put his wife through such a harrowing experience.
Lim said he was “saddened” that he had been used as an example for what could happen if one does not submit to political pressure, with him and his wife, Betty Chew, charged earlier by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for corruption.
“The charges against me and my wife are unprecedented in that not a single sen of gratification was found in my possession, as cash or in my or my wife’s bank account.
“There was no audio recording of me ever asking for any money for my personal benefit,” he said.
On Thursday, Anwar had said that in addition to Sekijang MP Natrah Ismail, four more PKR MPs had been pressured to switch allegiances, claiming the MACC was being used as a political weapon.
“If you jump (parties), the probe will be postponed. Otherwise, you will be targeted,” Anwar said, detailing the threats made.
Lim also heaped credit onto his wife, who he said had suffered far more from the charges than he had, with her legal career curtailed by the “trumped-up charges” laid against the pair.

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 9): Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak spent RM466,330.11 from his AmBank account — allegedly funds from SRC International Sdn Bhd — to buy a Chanel watch as a birthday present for his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
The luxury watch was bought in Honolulu, Hawaii, in December 2014, using the former premier's Visa credit card that was linked to his AmBank account ending 880.
This was the same personal holiday trip where Najib reportedly played a round of golf with then-US President Barack Obama.
It was into this account that part of the RM42 million originating from SRC was allegedly transferred to.
Najib confirmed the transaction today, based on the credit card statement produced to the court, during his examination-in-chief by defence counsel Rahmat Hazlan.

Six years on, Guan Eng's son's case still under probe

Police are still investigating claims that Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's son had sexually assaulted a schoolmate, almost six years since the allegations circulated on pro-Umno blogs.
Police received six complaints alleging that the then 16-year-old boy had committed the crime, and that money was paid to ensure the matter was not circulated online.
Lim had vehemently denied the allegations while the headmaster of the school the boy attended said no such incident occurred there.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 — A girl whose photograph was used by Umno bloggers to level accusations of sexual harassment against Lim Guan Eng’s son has been identified as 21-year-old chess Grandmaster Anya Sun Corke.
Corke, who represents England in chess, has no ties with Penang and has never been a classmate of Lim’s son as alleged by Umno blogs, the DAP said in a press conference in Parliament today.
The girl is understood to be currently an undergraduate of Wellesley College in the United States. Pro-Umno bloggers including Bukit Gelugor Umno division chief Dr Novandri Hasan Basri had claimed that the Penang chief minister’s son had assaulted a 16-year-old schoolmate and tried to escape punishment by using his father’s name. DAP publicity chief Tony Pua (picture) showed a press conference today screenshots from Dr Novandri’s and Papagomo’s blog and pictures from www.chessbase.com said to be of a 21-year-old Anya Corke.
“The chess board has been edited from the picture. This proves beyond doubt that the accusations by these Umno cybertroopers are nothing but barbaric lies.
“They have attempted to defame the 16-year-old son of Lim Guan Eng and humiliate his family with a completely fictitious sexual harassment story,” the Petaling Jaya Utara MP said.
